Job Summary

Assist in the budget process by analyzing financial information and preparing forecasts required to produce an annual operating budget. This position also will be responsible for the application of advanced budget analysis techniques, data evaluation and modeling, and development of executive level reports to support annual operating budget, strategic, and operational planning.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide analytical, forecasting, reporting, and project support to other analysts and senior leadership on various budget and finance related activities.

  • Produce monthly reports, which include key metrics, financial results, and variance reporting.

  • Effectively communicate with stakeholders regarding their budgets and answer university-wide overall budget questions.

  • Proactively analyze complex variable revenue and expenditure data from multiple sources.

  • Participate in the creation and assist with development of the annual operating budget.

  • Provide guidance and support to all departmental personnel during annual budget preparation.

  • Assist in developing and implementing innovative procedures to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of budget processes and systems, identify university-wide performance improvement opportunities, and continually update and suggest enhancements to policies, procedures, and processes.

  • Interpret financial transactions and events for budget administrators and other users making business decisions.

  • Monitor and research budget exceptions, communicate exceptions to university departments, and assist with resolving departmental budget exceptions.

  • Build reporting for internal and external constituents.

  • Utilize PeopleSoft (UT Share), Oracle EPM, MARS, and other tools to develop financial reports for forecasting, trending, and result-focused analytics.

  • Perform cost and financial analysis using data reported and interpret data to assess past financial performance and to project financial outcomes for departments.

  • Assist with the preparation of the Legislative Appropriation Request and other required reports at the state-level as assigned.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance or accounting with eight (8) years of experience or 12 years of equivalent combination of experience and education.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree with a major in finance or accounting.

  • Experience in university finance, accounting, or budgeting.

  • Experience with fund accounting in university finance or accounting.

  • Experience in PeopleSoft Finance and Oracle Enterprise Management (EPM).

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Excellent accounting research skills

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Ability to work effectively with various groups of people

  • Ability to take charge of a project and complete with minimal supervision
