Job Summary and Qualifications

The Pharmacy Intern performs all activities of a Pharmacy Technician, including IV admixture preparation and duties associated with automated cabinets and other duties as assigned by the pharmacy management team. Must work under the direct supervision of a pharmacist.

What You Will Do In This Role:

  • Identifies critical issues, prioritize workload and communicate to appropriate personnel any issues in a timely manner.

  • Interacts in person and by phone with hospital personnel politely and appropriately.

  • Accurately maintains required documentation logs.

  • Responsible for maintaining medication storage and security as per regulatory requirements throughout the organization.

  • Accurately performs audits (i.e. anesthesia, overrides, billing, etc.) as assigned.

  • Performs quality control and performance improvement functions as assigned.

  • Accurately performs and documents monthly medication storage are inspections as assigned.

  • Assists the pharmacists in clinical reviews as assigned.

  • Accurately and safely compounds and label medications and parenteral admixtures.

  • Compliant with all USP797 daily/monthly requirements (i.e. cleaning lamiar airflow cabinets, wearing personal protective equipment, etc.).

  • Prepares all work record needed for day at their designated times.

  • Compounds chemotherapy preparation per established protocol.

  • Accurately transports medications and other pharmacy supplies in a timely manner to appropriate areas.

  • Accurately fills orders in the pharmacy.

  • Process medication returns and restocking to the pharmacy.

  • Unpacks and scans medications to increment counts, and to decrement counts when dispensed.

  • Proficient in automated dispensing machines Performing daily ADC routines as assigned, i.e. restock, outdates, discrepancy resolution, loading and unloading, etc.)

  • Able to perform ADC build and set up functions.

  • Under direction will adjust medications Min and Max. narcotic discrepancy audits - investigate discrepancies to determine if true discrepancy and completes audit sheets and/or incidence reports as appropriate.

What Qualifications You Will Need:

  • Current State of Texas registered Pharmacist-Intern.

  • Currently enrolled in the professional sequences of a college/school of pharmacy.

  • Completed the first professional year and obtained a minimum of 30 credit hours or work towards a professional degree in pharmacy.

  • Must have completed the pharmacy's on-site technician training program.

  • Have completed the training required for pharmacists in 291.133 of Texas Rules and Regulations (relating to Pharmacies Compounding Sterile Preparations). This may be obtained through completion of a recognized course in an accredited college or pharmacy or a course sponsored by an ACPE accredited provider.
