The Transportation Department of the North Central Texas Council of Governments is seeking an Intern to support the Air Quality Management and Operations program area to reduce transportation-related emissions. Specific projects include, but are not limited to, Regional Smoking Vehicle Program (RSVP), Engine Off North Texas, Saving Money and Reducing Truck Emissions (SMARTE), and High Emitting Vehicle Program. Primary work functions include coordinating and attending events to raise consumer awareness of clean air programs, collaborating with local governments to enhance emissions enforcement efforts, and coordinating with local stakeholders and local governments to adopt and implement vehicle idling reduction strategies. Work is collaborative in nature, working not only within the NCTCOG team, but also with external stakeholders, including fleets, citizen groups, associations, and industry representatives. Ideal candidates should attend school in the Dallas-Fort Worth region and be able to work at least 25 hours per week while attending school.

Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Assisting with data collection, organization, and analysis
• Assisting with event planning and coordination, including meetings, webinars and stakeholder outreach
• Drafting for supervisor review, emails and monthly status reports
• Drafting for supervisor review, content for NCTCOG Air Quality websites
• Assisting staff with monitoring legislative bills at the federal and State levels
• Assisting staff with developing and analyzing policies
• Drafting for supervisor review, newsletter content on topics such as clean vehicle technology and vehicle idling reduction
• Drafting for supervisor review, responses to various inquiries

Required Skills

• Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Excel
• Detail oriented, highly organized, with an ability to manage multiple assignments/tasks and work well in a deadline-driven environment
• Good communication, both written and verbal, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to listen to and follow instructions, coordinate with team members, and present ideas
• Good mathematical skills
• Ability to work independently and in a team environment

Required Education and Experience

• Must be attending an accredited college or university in a degree-seeking program during employment
• No work experience required

Starting Salary

Minimum of $17.00 per hour
