Job Summary

Provide the overall development, coordination and implementation of the TRIO Upward Bound Math and Science (UBMS-D) Program.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Coordinate the administration of an Upward Bound Math and Science Dallas program as outlined in the grant.

  • Meet and exceed the goals and the standardized objectives of the grant.

  • Plan, organize and supervise the academic year and summer components.

  • Coordinate the recruitment, selection, retention and maintenance of participants and participant files.

  • Develop the core curriculum for the academic year and summer components of the program.

  • Evaluate and schedule students in appropriate summer component classes based on their academic performance and career objectives.

  • Coordinate the interviewing, hiring, training and monitoring of student staff.

  • Administer and interpret standardized testing.

  • Monitor monthly Individual Service Plans (ISP) activity for each grade level (9th, 10th, 11th, and 12th) and Academic Progress Plans (APP).

  • Compile and submit program assessments to be used in the end-of-year evaluation.

  • Maintain communication with target school administration and faculty, community agencies, parents and participants.

  • Develop mentor and volunteer programs.

  • Stay knowledgeable/current with professional materials, organizations and information in order to be effective in position.

  • Assist the Director in submitting annual reporting documentation to the U.S. Department of Education as well as the submission of grant proposals.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in math, science, or a related field with two (2) years of experience in a related area.

  • Two (2) years of experience with student recruitment, guidance and advising practices as well as university admissions and financial aid programs.

  • At least one (1) year of supervisory experience.

  • Formal training or work experience in fields related to improving academic scores on standardized tests, student participation and project retention, promoting post-secondary enrollment, and college persistence rates for low-income and potential first-generation college students.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in education or related field.

  • Four (4) years of related experience preferred.

  • Three (3) years of experience working with a Federal TRIO Program or non-profit agency in the areas of dropout prevention and post-secondary opportunity.

  • Experience in classroom teaching and tutoring with educationally and economically disadvantaged youth.

  • Experience with Grant writing and administration.

  • Two (2) years of experience and knowledge of services provided high school students as former TRIO professional, school official or other youth advocate.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of student recruitment, guidance, and advising practices.

  • Knowledge of college and university admissions and financial aid programs.

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with target school students, faculty, staff, and the public.

  • Familiarity with curriculum development and design, instructional methods, testing, and computer assisted instruction.

  • Must have analytical abilities, excellent verbal and written communication skills and thorough knowledge of computer applications.

  • Must have excellent verbal and written communication ability and professional computer skills.
