The Opportunity ... Purpose: Operates assigned machine shop tools including manual mill, lathe, horizontal and vertical saws, grinders and drill presses. Meets safety, quality and production standards. Typically runs less complex jobs and under supervision. Essential Duties and Percent of Time Spent: Reviews procedures, work orders, blueprints, set-up sheets and receives verbal work instructions. Learns to plan the job layout with as few set-ups as possible. Gathers required tooling and fixturing or places order with tool room if necessary. Learns to calculate speeds, feeds, depths of cuts and tapers for machining. Identifies the type of material being used and performs hardness testing. Learns to correct or modify tooling call-outs, offsets, speeds and feeds to allow for variations in the material. 10% Operates assigned machines meeting safety, quality, and production standards. Logs run and setup times. May perform additional operations on product such as cleaning, deburring and sanding. Learns to run more complex jobs. Learns to set up assigned machines. 50% Uses measuring devices to check all part dimensions. Completes all Inspection documentation in a timely and accurate manner. Reports non-conformances. 10% Performs routine preventative maintenance and cleaning on assigned machines. 25% Stocks and inventories tooling, fixtures, and jigs. Maintains a neat and organized work center. 5% Occasional Responsibilities: Performs other duties as assigned. Assists in other areas of the shop as assigned.
