National Park Service Recreation Fee Technician (Contiguous to Area) in Arco, Idaho

Summary These positions are located in Craters Of The Moon National Monument and Preserve, in the Division of Administration. Responsibilities Career-Seasonal appointments are permanent positions and include the same benefits as Career appointments, but do not provide work on a year-round basis. You will work for approximately 6 months, from late April - mid November and you will be in a non-pay status from mid November - April. Serve as a front-line, uniformed representative of the NPS, answering visitor questions and explaining the area's recreational opportunities, including NPS interpretive services, concession operated facilities and services, campground availability, hiking trails, etc. Serve as a front-line, uniformed representative of the NPS, answering visitor questions and explaining the area's recreational opportunities, including NPS interpretive services, concession operated facilities and services, campground availability, hiking trails, etc. Perform assignments in accordance with all NPS and U.S. Treasury regulations governing the handling of government funds. Assist higher level personnel with auditing fee collection program components/systems (e.g. cash registers, road/trail registers, honor systems, automated fee machines or AFMs, donation boxes, etc.). Assist in completing audit paperwork and documenting findings. Communicate audit results to supervisor. Prepare and complete remittance reports and bank deposits for funds donated and/or collected by others. Review shift reports and count funds collected; Investigate and proactively resolve routine or recurring discrepancies, and track overages, shortages, and errors. Inventory and/or restock fee program supplies and assist with placing orders and preparing requisition requests for equipment/supplies as needed. Requirements Conditions of Employment U.S. Citizenship required. Appointment subject to background investigation and favorable adjudication. Meet Selective Service Registration Act requirement for males. Selectee will be required to participate in the Direct Deposit Electronics Funds Transfer Program. You may be required to operate a government (or private) motor vehicle as part of your official duties. Prior to your first official motor vehicle operation, and again every year thereafter (or more frequently if management determines such need exists), you will be required to sign an affidavit certifying to your possession of a valid State issued driver's license that is current and has not been revoked, suspended, canceled, or otherwise disqualified in any way to prohibit your operation of a motor vehicle. You will also submit a photocopy of your valid State issued driver's license prior to your first official motor vehicle operation, and again every year, or more frequently if management determines such need exists. Lastly, you may be required to submit (within a State sealed envelope or submitted directly by the State authorities), and at your own expense, all certified driving records from all States that discloses all valid driver's licenses, whether current or past, possessed by you. Please indicate in your application whether you possess a valid State driver's license. You will be required to wear a uniform and comply with the National Park Service uniform standards. A uniform allowance will be provided. You may be required to work on-call, evenings, weekends, holidays, overtime and shift work. If you are a new employee in the Federal government, you will be required to complete a one-year probationary period. Applicants must be at least (1)18 years old or (2) at least 16 years old and: (a) Have graduated from high school or been awarded a certificate equivalent to graduating from high school; or (b) Have completed a formal vocational training program; or (c) Have received a statement from school authorities agreeing with their preference for employment rather than continuing their education; or (d) Be currently enrolled in a secondary school and either work only during school vacation periods or work part-time during the school year under a formal student employment program. Qualifications The position using this authority must be advertised and veteran's preference must be applied as with all excepted service positions. Only those individuals who have maintained a permanent exclusive residence for a minimum of two (2) years in the communities listed above can be considered. Applicants must certify that they have maintained a permanent and exclusive residence within the communities of Arco, Mackay, Howe and Carey, Idaho, and that their residency is expected to continue indefinitely by completing the Certification of Living Contiguous to the Area form prior to entrance on duty. All qualifications must be met by the closing date of this announcement-01/06/2025-unless otherwise stated in this vacancy announcement. Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience. To receive credit for experience, your resume MUST clearly indicate the nature of the duties and responsibilities for each position, starting and ending dates of employment (month/year), and the resume must reflect full and/or part-time or total number of hours worked (i.e., work 40+ hours a week, rather than indicating full-time). If part-time, the hours must be annotated to be able to pro-rate the amount of qualified specialized experience. EXPERIENCE: At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-04 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). This experience includes: handling, tracking, or depositing monies; using software programs to maintain financial/accounting data (such as fee and stock data); performing fee collection, accounting or financial duties; using tools or equipment (e.g., cash registers, calculators, etc.) to make sales transactions; or ensuring accountability of funds and accurate financial records. You must include hours per week worked. -OR- EDUCATION: Successful completion of at least 4 years of education above high school (120 semester hours or 180 quarter hours) from an accredited college or university in any field for which high school graduation or the equivalent is the normal prerequisite. One full year of academic study is 30 semester hours. You must include transcripts. -OR- Possession of an equivalent combination of education and experience. Only education in excess of the first 60 semester hours (i.e., beyond the second year) is creditable toward meeting the specialized experience requirement). For example, 6 months of the specialized experience (50% of the experience requirement), and 3 years of college study (50% of the qualifying education), equals 100% of the total requirement. You must include transcripts and hours per week worked. Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. CTAP/ICTAP Statement: Current surplus and current or former displaced Federal individuals who have special priority selection rights under the Agency Career Transition Assistance Program (CTAP) or the Interagency Career Transition Assistance Program (ICTAP) must be well qualified for the position to receive consideration for special priority selection. Physical Demands: This position requires standing for long periods of time, as well as walking, bending, and liftin of moderately heavy items. Mental stress and physical fatigue occur due to the high volume of personal contracts and the responsibility of dealing with large amounts of money. If applicable, extreme physical exertion may be required while performing search and rescue, wildland firefighting or emergency response duties. Working Conditions: This position typically workes at an entrance station, campground office, fee office, remit office, visitor center, and/or bisitor contact station. Work is often performed in small, outdoor structures with open windows which results in exposre to exremes of temperature, rain, snow, wind, and direct sunlight. Park areas may be geographically located in areas of high elebation, rugged terrain, or dense populations. High levels of vehcile noise and emissions may exist during heavy visitation perios. Duties may be performed alone and/or in isolated locations.
