Position Summary

DarkStar is in search of a Systems Engineer based in Annapolis Junction, targeting individuals with an active Top Secret/SCI clearance and Counterintelligence Polygraph. This role is critical for ensuring the compatibility of production systems with strategic architectures and requires a professional with a minimum of seven years of relevant experience. The ideal candidate will bring robust technical expertise in systems engineering to contribute to key documentation and develop innovative capabilities. This position offers the opportunity to engage in complex projects that significantly contribute to national security within a dynamic and collaborative team environment.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

  • Ensure production systems are compatible with established architectures such as the Department of Defense Architecture Framework (DoDAF) and Service-oriented Architecture (SOA).

  • Help craft documents such as System Engineering Plans, Initial Capability Documents, Requirements Specifications, and Interface Control Documents.

  • Supported developing system and functional requirements and allocated these to specific hardware, software, facilities, and personnel components.

  • Manage the resolution of items from Configuration Control Board (CCB) meetings, design reviews, program reviews, and test reviews that necessitate coordination across various disciplines.

  • Engage in Integrated Product Teams to design new capabilities, considering all necessary development and operational aspects.

  • Allocate budgets for real-time processes and errors to system components and generate alternative system concepts, architectures, and design solutions.

  • Define methods, processes, and criteria for system verification against requirements in a documented plan and develop designs that meet system requirements based on functional analysis.

  • Review and contribute to program and contract work structures, ensuring integration with the master plan.

  • Engage in defining, designing, and modifying interfaces and configurations among affected groups throughout the product lifecycle.

  • Interpret stakeholder needs from system requirements, deriving lower-level requirements that are detailed, correct, and verifiable. Participate in the definition and approval of system or component specifications.

  • Develop requirements for Information Assurance services and mechanisms and implement comprehensive SOA solutions following DoDAF standards.

  • Ensure system engineering documents meet requirements and are comprehensive. Capture interface designs in a standardized format.

  • Assess and manage program risks in accordance with an approved plan.

  • Plan verification of new designs early in the development cycle to meet requirements. Establish a process for managing changes to requirements, ensuring stakeholder agreement and traceability.

  • Maintain the technical integrity of the system baseline over its lifecycle. Support DoD Certification/Accreditation Process and other Government C&A processes.

  • Contribute to the development and review of Joint Capability Integration Development System documents.

  • Provide technical guidance for the development and integration of complex system components. Conduct analysis in non-functional performance areas like reliability, maintainability, and survivability.

  • Coordinate system integration activities among multiple teams and develop operational scenarios that address system interactions, support, and maintenance needs.

    Minimum Qualifications

  • Active Top Secret/SCI clearance along with a Counterintelligence Polygraph.

  • At least fourteen (14) years of experience as a Systems Engineer (SE) in programs and contracts of similar scope, type, and complexity.

  • A Bachelor's degree in System Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering Science, Engineering Management, or a related field from an accredited institution is essential.

  • An additional five (5) years of Systems Engineering experience can substitute for the Bachelor's degree requirement.

  • Have at least experience in two (2) or more of the following domains:

  • Proficiency in modeling and system engineering analysis or development using the Department of Defense Architecture Framework (DoDAF) version 2.02.

  • Expertise in cryptographic development and analysis.

  • A strong foundation in Information Assurance (IA) and cybersecurity, including architecture design, concepts, principles, practical applications, and industry standards.

  • Comprehensive understanding of policies, directives, and instructions issued by the Department of Defense (DoD), Intelligence Community (IC), and other federal agencies (e.g., NIST) that guide IA and cybersecurity strategic planning and direction.
