Job Summary

The Information and Technology Services (ITS) organization has an exciting opportunity to employ a Virtualization and Cloud Infrastructure Team member. The Virtualization and Cloud Infrastructure group is responsible for evaluation, recommendation, design, implementation and ongoing support of Virtualization and Cloud Infrastructure services with an eye on ensuring automated, cost-effective, customer/campus-focused services using VMware, Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure, Google Compute Engine, etc.

The Virtualization and Cloud Infrastructure team provides support to the application development and support groups and also works with the other groups in the Infrastructure area - networking, data center, storage, security and architecture. The Virtualization and Cloud Infrastructure team member will maintain knowledge in multiple technical areas.

You will report to the Virtualization and Cloud Infrastructure Manager in the ITS Infrastructure group. You are able to work under minimal supervision, proactively anticipating and resolving problems, has experience in a role providing excellent customer service, the ability to follow documented procedures and standards in a consistent manner, and has the passion to meet or exceed customer expectations.

Responsibilities*

PRODUCTION SUPPORT

Provide production support for run activities to ensure available, customer-focused services including but not limited to:

  • Provide Service provisioning and Troubleshooting

  • Write, maintain, patch applications/codebase used to support automation and service delivery.

  • Follow procedures and guidelines to install, patch, configure, customize, troubleshoot, upgrade, integrate, and maintain systems, software, and network connectivity.

  • Support and collaborates with team members, software vendors, and other technical staff on project efforts to achieve implementation plans and timelines.

  • Review and monitors systems for availability, error conditions and performance monitors to ensure system stability.

  • Provide reports and capacity data to support metrics for hardware warranty, software licensing and asset management systems.

  • Develop and edit technical support knowledge base documentation, communications and written procedures tailored to the level and type of audience for support and issue resolution.

  • May require on-call availability and may require working during non-business hours and on weekends.

SERVICE IMPROVEMENTS

Lead/Contribute to service improvements by evaluating, researching, planning and implementation/updates of new or existing technologies and processes to Virtualization/Cloud Infrastructure and services.

  • Identify gaps in established procedures/processes and identify improvements recommendations and plans for implementation.

  • Review technical designs/architecture across platforms comparing them to vendor/industry roadmaps/trends to identify strengths weaknesses and opportunities to re-design, update or improve Services/technical designs/architecture.

  • Research and evaluate new Virtualization and Cloud technologies and features and shares knowledge with team.

  • Identify areas of service improvements and potential future enhancements based on customer requests and feedback.

DEVELOPMENT OF SELF AND OTHERS

Stay current with relevant advances in technologies. Responsible for maintaining and updating knowledge of IT policies and procedures, hardware, software, and technical services. This can include: on-the-job training, attending technical courses or conferences, reading, research, and testing. Develop and follow best practices and procedures and share knowledge with team members.

Required Qualifications*

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field, or equivalent combination of education, certification, and experience.

  • One year experience in IT working independently to successfully install, configure, maintain, and support applications and operating systems

  • One year experience with programming languages, scripting languages or automation platforms

  • Knowledge of some or all of the following technologies: VMware, AWS, vCenter, openstack, Windows, Linux

  • Ability to leverage appropriate technical tools with direction to perform day-to-day administration tasks, root-cause analysis and service restoration (such as backup, restore, failover, log interpretation, and performance monitoring)

  • Proven ability to work as part of a team to meet customer expectations

  • Responsible for protecting data and information from unauthorized release or from loss, alteration, or unauthorized deletion; and, following applicable regulations and instructions regarding access to computerized files, release of data, etc. as stated in a computer access agreement which the incumbent signs.
