Who we’re looking for

Toyota’s Emerging Energy Solutions Department is looking highly motivated R&D product development engineer to lead the development of all-new EV and Home Energy ecosystem products, turning new business strategies into reality, while supporting Toyota’s electrification and carbon reduction efforts. to work on vehicle and home-connected electrical systems.

The primary responsibility of this role is to develop system control and evaluation of various vehicle/home-connected electrical systems like stationary battery systems, V2X (V2H, V2L, V2G, V1G), Charging products. In addition, this position will coach other less experienced engineers.

Reporting to the Senior Engineering Manager, Engineer in this role develops new products for connected electrified vehicle systems and new energy solutions. This will ultimately support Toyota’s goals to expand electrified powertrains, further reduce total carbon footprint and achieve Toyota’s 2050 Environmental Challenges.

What you’ll be doing

Prepare EV Ecosystem spec in collaboration with TMNA members and potential supplier to meet Functional safety requirements.

Develop production level System level control software for integrating various modules of EV ecosystem for potentially many variations. This requires embedded and/or cloud-based software development.

Evaluate system level software using SILS or HILS

Document system design, control algorithms, and code for internal and external reference.

Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless integration of subsystems with vehicle electrical architecture.

Ensure that the system meets safety standards and regulatory requirements.

Collaborate with sales, other R&D groups, project managers, electricians, and installers to ensure quality product development.

Working with outside test facility to design evaluation plan and execute the plan.

Document test plan and test results for submitting to certification need.

What you bring

BS or MS in Electrical Engineering or Systems Engineering or Electromechanical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.

Experience in developing systems intended for production and commercialization, Specifically stationary battery systems, V2X (V2H, V2L, V2G, V1G), and Charging products.

Experience creating technical specifications, architecture design complying with requirements.

Experience developing production level system control software for electrical systems.

Experience in Simulation (MATLAB, p-Spice, or related simulation software), analysis, modeling as part of design and development.

Experience in conducting safety analysis using FMEA, FTA, etc. to confirm system functional safety.

Knowledge of developing electric power equipment systems, DC and AC

Expertise in various Power Electronics Converter topologies (Non-isolated and Isolated DC/DC Converters, DC/AC Inverters), Power devices such as MOSFETS, IGBT, SiC etc and EMI/EMC filter.

Flexibility for travel, up to 20%, and OT, up to 20%

What you may bring

Experience of hardware component development

Proficiency in design and analysis of electrical system for optimized size, weight, Power, and cost

System knowledge for integrating Electric Vehicle and charging systems (EV Ecosystem), enabling V2X applications.

Basic CAD knowledge to understand circuit drawings, system layouts, and installation documentation capability to perform energy output/transfer analyses.

EV charging system knowledge.

Familiarity with SAE/ISO, NFPA/NEC, UL, CPSC standards.

Project management experience, holding upstream stakeholders accountable for quality, on-time delivery, budget, including suppliers/vendors.

Japanese language a plus
