Job Summary
The College of Literature, Science, and the Arts, and the Department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology at the University of Michigan invite applications for a Lecturer I position at 66.67% effort for the Winter Term 2025. This appointment is scheduled to begin on January 8, 2025 and end on May 1, 2025.

Responsibilities*
Duties of these Lecturer I positions are expected to include teaching, developing course materials, evaluating and grading students, and holding regularly scheduled office hours. A typical full-time (100% effort) load for a Lecturer I in the College of Literature, Science, and the Arts is three courses per semester. Full-time and part-time positions are available.
Course Title(s): EEB450 - Biology of Amphibians and Reptiles
Course Objectives: This biodiversity survey course integrates lecture, lab, and field-based study of amphibians and reptiles, with special focus on the local diversity of Michigan. Lectures address both contemporary and deep-time understanding of the evolution and ecology of global herpetofauna. Laboratory exercises go beyond traditional specimen-based identification to promote ?practical herpetology? skills and connections to cutting-edge research, including hands-on exploration of species richness gradients, CT scanning, and assembling our own 3-D printed models. Field trips emphasize behavior, natural history, and field techniques for the study and conservation of reptiles and amphibians in nature. This course counts as an Upper-Level Elective and satisfies the Biodiversity requirement in EEB.
Required Qualifications*
The candidate must hold a Ph.D. in ecology, evolutionary biology, or a related discipline with a focus on herpetology and experience working with reptile and amphibian specimens in a classroom setting. The candidate must have demonstrated excellence in college-level teaching in the United States.
Desired Qualifications*
Applicants should have a strong working knowledge of global diversity of amphibians and reptiles, including being able to identify a wide range of clades across the 7 orders. They should also have a strong working knowledge of species identification for all Michigan herpetofauna and best practices for safe field sampling, including the ability to lead field trips to local natural areas and zoological parks. Additionally, they should have substantial experience in the curation and high-throughput organization of both alcohol and dry prepared specimens required to run the laboratory sessions.
