Hourly range for RSAM Registered Nurses $41.44 - $64.45 / hour

Responsibilities*

This position will be a part of the Psychiatric Nurse Behavioral Consultation Liaison Service. Provide behavioral intervention recommendations, verbal and written, to faculty, nursing, techs, and patient attendants for behaviorally complex and escalating patients on inpatient medical units. Assist staff and faculty in developing behavioral support plans for both patients? and family members. This role differs from a direct patient care role in that the Clinical Care Coordinator will primarily be working with faculty, nursing staff and patient care attendants rather than directly caring for patients. Nursing education and bedside teaching of effective, non-pharmacologic, Welle de-escalation and behavioral management strategies will be used to optimize patients? adherence and cooperation with care as well as decrease barriers to care, while promoting safety of patients, visitors, and all staff.

Provide care coordination for patients and families on the inpatient units in collaboration with the treatment team and case management team. Develop and deliver formal and informal educational presentations to peer groups, medical faculty and staff, and other interdisciplinary groups based on pertinent topics. Collaborate with other health care team members and associated resource persons to ensure continuity of care across all care environments.

Assist in the development and implementation of competencies, protocols, and staff and patient education tools to improve patient outcomes and overall care. Participate and assist with ongoing research to better the behavioral service, patient outcomes, and safety for all.

Organizational Relationships:

Report directly to and receive delegation from the Psychiatric Nurse Behavioral Consultation Liaison Service Clinical Nurse Specialist for clinical and functional supervision and ongoing evaluation.

Administrative supervision and formal evaluation by the Associate Chief Nursing Officer for the sub-segment Medical-Surgical and Psychiatric nursing practices in the Adult Hospitals.

Professional Development:

Attend relevant competency training, staff development in-services and conferences to maintain and improve knowledge base, competency and skills.

Attends relevant professional and/or leadership development opportunities.

Attend annual Welle renewal certification

Document consults and follow ups to track resource utilization.

Keeps records and documented evidence of attendance.

Salary & Nursing Framework Level:

This UMPNC RN posting is posted under the Role-Specific Advancement Model (RSAM) as:

CCC- COMPETENT.

Actual RSAM LEVEL and salary will be determined at time of hire.

RSAM levels range from CCC-COMPETENT to CCC-EXPERT to CCC-MASTERY.

Required qualifications must be met by the candidate in order to be interviewed and considered for the position.

Required Qualifications*

  • Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Michigan

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing from an accredited nursing program

  • Five or more years of direct patient care experience

  • Three or more years of inpatient, acute care, nursing practice

  • Experience with effective Welle de-escalation strategies and interventions

Desired Qualifications*

  • Emergency department or inpatient behavioral health experience

  • Extensive knowledge about complex behavioral presentations, delirium, and substance use disorders are critical for this position

  • Comprehensive understanding of the RN scope of practice

  • Demonstrated knowledge of psychotherapeutic modalities effective in treating psychiatric and behavioral symptoms and disorders

  • Awareness of individual learning styles

  • An understanding of how to tailor teaching method(s) to accommodate the learner?s needs for comprehension and retention of consult information to support application of education to clinical practice

  • Previous experience providing education to nursing and faculty members

  • Candidate must possess high level critical thinking skills and clinical judgment to care for adult patients with dysregulated behavior

  • Candidate must demonstrate strong self-initiative, be able to function with minimal supervision and be highly motivated to provide excellent care in the spirit of patient and staff advocacy

  • Demonstrated strong interpersonal skills

  • Effective oral and written communication skills

  • Demonstrated expertise in communication and problem-solving skills with all levels of the health care team

Work Schedule

Hours: 40 hours/Week

Shift:Rotating shift: Days, evenings, nights, weekends. For example, Sunday through Wednesday midnights, 10-hour shifts. Thursday through Sunday evenings, 10-hour shift
