The court administrator is the chief administrative officer of the Madison County Circuit Court, a general jurisdiction, unified trial court consisting of six Judges, three Magistrates and four Commissioners. All court staff are employees at will, and the court administrator serves at the pleasure of the six Judges. About the position

Under the collective supervision of the six Judges and immediately supervised by the Chief Judge, the court administrator is responsible for the management and administration of non-judicial functions of the court, including civil, criminal, probate, family law, juvenile, traffic and small claims. Administrative functions include court operations, budget, personnel, jury management, technology and information systems, media services, and court interpreting.

The court administrator is expected to provide innovative and creative leadership to formulate and execute non-judicial policy and evaluate its effectiveness. The court administrator is responsible for solving complex problems in a collaborative manner. The court administrator must develop and maintain cooperative relationships with officials at the Indiana Supreme Courts Office of Judicial Administration, the Indiana Office of Court Services, Madison County executive branch and fiscal body leaders, as well as other elected officials and appointed department heads in Madison County government.

Examples of essential duties include, but are not limited to:

Assist the Judges in organizing, developing, directing, and overseeing the operations of the Madison County Circuit Courts.

Directs all administrative functions of the Court, including court operations, fiscal, budgetary, personnel, payroll, accounting, recordkeeping, and courtroom staffing.

An applicant with an active Indiana law license will research legal issues for individual judges or the entire body as requested.

Provides general direction to and supervision of the employees of the Court and administers personnel policies. If requested by an individual judge, supervises, and directs personnel, including interviewing applicants, hiring, planning/delegating work assignments, providing corrective instruction, evaluating performance, and maintaining discipline as needed and directed. Each judge reserves the authority to manage his or her Courts personnel. Serves as a resource for judicial officers in hiring, discipline, and termination decisions. Maintain Madison County Circuit Court handbook and recommend personnel policy changes. Provide leadership, coordination, and guidance in federal employment law areas, including but not limited to the Fair Labor Standards Act, the Family and Medical Leave Act, and the Americans with Disabilities Act.

Develop training programs and materials for court staff and personnel. Coordinate staff for special projects.

Directly supervises the Courts Financial Administrator who prepares, maintains and distributes comprehensive financial and statistical records and reports related to budget, personnel and who reviews, certifies and signs payroll and claims for payment for supplies, services and capital expenses within each court budget, assuring proper accounting and financial controls, and who shall maintain all records necessary for the completion of the Annual Report on Court Expenditure and Budget to be submitted to the Indiana Office of Court Services.

Meets with the Chief Judge regarding matters related to the operations of the Court.
