JOB SUMMARY:

STG, Incorporated performs construction and project management services across Alaska. Our Field Engineer reports directly to the Project Manager, functionally to Project Foreman, and acts as a liaison between the field sites and main office while performing general construction duties as part of the STG construction crew in extreme Alaskan conditions. Prior experience in Alaskas rural construction industry is preferred.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Maintain first level quality assurance to confirm installation of all work is in accordance with the plans, specifications, applicable codes, and industry standards.
  • Support Project Foreman in project documentation to include:

``` - Timesheet coding, approval, and on time submission to Main Office. - Daily and Activity Reports to Project Manager. - Safety Near Miss Reports, Assessments, and daily meeting documentation to Risk Manager. - Complete the following submittals per project specifications: - Drill logs - Pile Driving blow logs - Pile Driving helical logs - Pile Driving installation records - Pipe pressure test forms

``` - Under direction of Project Foreman, assist and fill in when they are not available. - Write daily, weekly and monthly status reports and submit to Project Manager for inclusion in client reports. - Assist in the development and maintenance of project plans; including timelines, project phases, and activities by utilizing Critical Path Management techniques and company-designated software programs. - Keep Project Management appraised of all changed work and conditions to help ensure timely set-up of new tracking codes as needed, and change order implementation. - Determine materials for procurement and monitor material procurement process to ensure timeliness to support project needs. - Receive and expedite incoming and outgoing freight from project site. - Assist Project Foreman in the hiring of local labor force per project needs and under adherence of Company Local Hire Policy:

``` - Perform basic follow up with getting all required hiring paperwork to Human Resources.

``` - Document and propose solutions for various field issues or field interfaces that may arise during execution of work. - Assist with project health, safety, and environmental requirements. Learn to write and assist with revising company compliance plans. - Learn and develop company Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP). Administer site SWPPP as needed. - Assist with and type written correspondence as needed. - Assist with/learn project estimating. Assist with current job estimates as needed. - Maintain a daily diary for record of project construction to include photographs and video logs. - Maintain and organize office space and field office.

``` - Maintain consistent and punctual attendance. - Perform physical labor that require considerable use of your arms and legs and moving your whole body such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling of materials at construction sites. - Work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner.

NON-ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Coordinate complex air reservations, including aircraft charters to rural areas.
  • Responsibility to report any incident, situation or activity that may affect the companys ability to operate safely, ethically and profitably to company Risk Manager.
  • Application of versatile construction skill set to assist other trades to meet project needs.
  • Act as a team leader.

SUPERVISORY FUNCTIONS:

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES:

  • All around knowledge of materials, terms, and practices in the construction field.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Project, Excel, Word, Outl ok, and PowerPoint.
  • Skill in use of project schedule software.
  • Technical knowledge of digital equipment.
  • Effective professional communication and interpersonal skills with regard to:
    • Internal and external written and verbal communications.
    • Working with other departments and personnel to accomplish STGs objectives.
  • Ability to work in a team environment, take direction from supervisor(s), high degree of attention to details, follow work rules, and adhere to established work schedules.
  • Ability to work productively under pressure.
  • Strong self-motivation and work ethic; ability to work without direct supervision.
  • Work requires willingness to work a flexible schedule.
  • Ability to travel to remote locations for work related purposes (up to 100% of time).
  • Ability to participate in and facilitate group meetings in person and telephonically.

``` - Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, regulations, instruction manuals, blueprints, and specifications.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelors Degree in engineering or construction preferred but may be substituted on a year for year basis for related project management experience.
  • One or more years related project experience including budget preparation, cost estimating, and fiscal management principles and procedures.
  • Work related experience using Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook and PowerPoint) and project management software.
  • Prefer prior work experience in construction industry.
  • Knowledge of remote Alaska logistics and construction practices strongly preferred.
  • Preference to have a valid state drivers license and qualified to operate a vehicle under the conditions of STGs Driving Policy.
  • Ability to pass a drug and background screening.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT:

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. STGs work sites are high-paced with high performance standards and may be located anywhere in Alaska. Field employees will be required to travel by plane to remote conditions and live in tight quarters with other employees currently assigned to the same job, and with whom he/she has already worked alongside all day. In order to perform the duties of this job, the employee will need to be able to do heavy physical labor for 10-12 hours per day, seven days a week, often for many weeks at a time.
