NANA Regional Corporation Drafter in Anchorage, Alaska

Job Description

The Drafter provides drafting supporting, mainly through as-builting redline markups, using AutoCAD, MS Excel, MS Word and other programs. Help develop and implement document control methods to client specifications. Maintain a high professional standard, working directly with key clients.

Responsibilities

  • Create accurate, detailed technical plans for using CAD programs to convert specifications and design information from engineers into schematics and blueprints.

  • Work closely with engineers to develop project details and construction plans.

  • Use specialized computer software to automate design, calculate quantities and check for errors.

  • Update CAD standards; contribute to and maintain components library.

  • Create as-built documents from inspection sketches and notes.

  • Collect, study and combine rough sketches and initial design ideas from engineers into coherent technical drafts for further study and review by project managers.

  • Prepare comprehensive diagrams for equipment, industrial facilities and residential and commercial buildings according to project objectives, design information and engineering specifications.

  • Check that final technical drafts include all relevant information in an easy-to-read format, and verify that calculations, measurements and units are accurate based on initial design information from engineers.

  • Review technical drafts as needed according to verbal or written instructions from project managers, engineering team and clients.

  • Participate in design process by supporting engineers and designers, contributing ideas and information and creating rough sketches and diagrams of electrical wiring and systems on the fly.

  • Assist designers and project managers as needed in preparing technical documents and presentation slides for meetings with clients and investors, and help sales team create materials for tradeshows and conferences.

  • Serve as a technical resource for interns and others who use drafting software less frequently.

  • This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

  • Other duties may be assigned.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED equivalent required.

  • Minimum five (5) years of relevant draft work experience required.

  • Advanced skillset with Microsoft Word and Excel required.

  • Experience working in remote areas of Alaska required.

  • Advanced ability and knowledge of AutoCAD, AutoCAD C3D, Solid Works

  • Excellent interpersonal skills, specifically written and oral communication.

  • Must be able to work in inclement weather in an arctic environment.

  • A valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record for the past three (3) years to be eligible under company vehicle insurance policy.

Preferred:

  • Previous experience working in mining or other industrial applications.

  • Experience using various drafting programs.

  • Experience with ARCGIS or similar programs.

  • College education in related field.

  • Advanced ability and knowledge or Revit, Solid Works, Rhino and Photoshop.

  • Knowledge of Building and Construction Codes and Regulations.

  • Knowledge of common construction practices.

  • Knowledge of typical construction contracting methods.

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements

Weather: Indoors - environmentally controlled; requires most or all work to be done inside.

Noise level: The noise level in the work environment is usually that of a standard office atmosphere.

Description of environment: Office building with standard office environment.

Physical requirements: Employee is required to occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 lbs. Frequently required to sit, stand, walk, use hands/fingers to handle or feel, climb, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, talk/hear, see, taste/smell, and carry weight/lift.
