  • Position Summary

  • Under general direction, performs work on personal computers, servers, local & wide area network infrastructure, telecommunication systems, interface engine, software applications, as installed and maintained by the Information Systems Department. Serves as the technical resource on assigned application systems. Ensures all actions taken in carrying out responsibilities support patient centered care.

  • Installs and maintains personal computers and software.

  • Will maintain stroke education per regulatory requirements.

  • Installs and maintains servers including version updates & patches.

  • Installs and maintains network infrastructure.

  • Installs and maintains direct-attached and network-attached printers.

  • Ability to quickly and completely solve complex, inter-related problems using hardware/software research and analysis tools.

  • Maintains network security and resolves network security issues when discovered.

  • Works directly with users to resolve personal computer and printer issues.

  • Performs system backup and restore procedures.

  • Performs telephone system administration duties.

  • Provides cross-training to other Information Systems staff members.

  • Maintains equipment and software license records as required.

  • Participates in departmental on-call duties.

  • Collaborates with software vendors to develop integration and interfaces to existing systems.

  • Researches and reviews commercial software packages to determine applicability to needs of the organization. Determines compatibility with existing systems.

  • Acts as an expert resource person concerning the functionality and capabilities of installed information systems. Assists users and other staff by solving system problems and, if needed, contacting the vendor for additional support.

  • Verifies the functionality provided in software releases prior to installation in the live environment.

  • Collaborates with the Education Department, vendor, or user department to plan user education.

  • Coordinates information security by issuing security codes to all new employees, creates user profiles and passwords for new employees.

  • Works directly with information technology vendors during implementation of new systems.

  • Maintains department documentation and records as directed.

  • Uses vendor developed reports, query tools, ad hoc report writer tools, computer programs and other available tools to extract desired information

  • Responsible for the technical design, planning, implementation, documentation, and the highest level of performance tuning and recovery procedures for mission critical enterprise systems.

  • Coordinates and provides project management leadership for complex system implementations involving a diverse group of team members including IT, Clinical Applications, departmental staff, vendors, consultants, and medical center administration.

  • Ability to complete the most complex and challenging system implementations.

  • Provides guidance and project direction to other staff members and serves as an expert resource within the Information Systems department.

  • Assumes leadership role in problem-solving efforts, often involving outside vendors and consultants, other medical center personnel, and other organizations.

  • Takes 24x7 ownership of assigned systems.

  • Performs related work as required.

  • Understands and actively follows all HIPAA/HiTech regulations and policies.

  • Qualifications, Knowledge & Experience

  • Required Qualifications (Including any licensure, certification, education):

  • Bachelors degree in MIS, Computer Science, or related field; or demonstrated competence in one or more of the following: Microsoft service operating systems, network infrastructure, software application systems; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • De-escalation training prior to performing direct patient care or within 90 days of hire

  • All clinical night staff routinely working between the hours of 2300-0700 that work in Acute Rehab, Med Tele, Med Surg, Birthways, PEDS, NICU, and Oncology AND all clinical staff that work in Nursing Support Team, Behavioral Health, ED, ICCU, and House Managers will be required to take the combative patient response team training within 90 days of hire and must maintain throughout employment. Individuals less than 18 years old are excluded.

  • Preferred Qualifications:

  • Masters Degree in Computer Science, Business Administration, or related field

  • Specialized advanced credentials for software application systems.

  • Five or more years experience in Systems Administrator or similar role. Healthcare experience preferred.

  • Required Knowledge, Skills & Experience:

  • A minimum of two years of demonstrated expert level skills and knowledge in one or more of the following core system areas: PCs, Microsoft server operating systems, LAN/WAN infrastructure , virtual servers & storage management, telephone systems, software application systems, system security, or system interfaces.

  • Ability to interact with staff, physicians, visitors, consultants, and vendors in a helpful and positive manner.

  • Ability to handle multiple requests/needs simultaneously; ability to remain calm when experiencing critical system issues.

  • Ability to exercise good judgment and discretion, especially when handling confidential information.

  • Excellent customer service and project management skills.

  • Expert level knowledge of HIPAA/HiTech regulations and policies.

  • Ability to plan, organize, implement, and document complex systems and to configure systems to be consistent with medical center policies and procedures.

  • Preferred Knowledge, Skills & Experience:

  • Previous experience in a hospital information systems department

  • Previous experience with electronic health record
