Experience in designing and conducting plant metabolomics studies.

In-person classroom teaching experience for undergraduate bioinformatics and computational biology or genetics courses.

Job Description:

We are seeking a Research Scientist III to join our teams, that specialize in the statistical integration of multi-omics datasets, including transcriptome, metabolome, and open chromatin data in mammalian and plant species. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing tools for managing large-scale data and performing bioinformatic analyses. This includes analyzing whole tissue and single-cell transcriptomic data to generate novel hypotheses and initiate new research directions. The individual will also supervise graduate students and technicians in conducting bioinformatics analyses and metabolomics experiments, and conducting field experiments.

Additional duties include developing sample collection and processing protocols, as well as metabolite extraction and analysis methods using advanced analytical instrumentation. The candidate will lead experimental design, data analysis, and presentations to the lab groups, collaborative teams, and at scientific conferences. They will contribute to or lead grant writing, serve as the principal investigator on grants, and mentor early-career scientists in manuscript preparation and grant writing.

In addition to research responsibilities, the candidate will be responsible for teaching Principles of Genetics (Biol 3130) in the spring semester and Introduction to Bioinformatics and Computational Biology (BCBio 3220) in the fall semester. This includes developing and updating course content on the Canvas platform, delivering in-person lectures, administering exams, and providing student support through office hours and grading.

This is a part-time position working 34 hours per week, with the possibility that it may increase to 40 hours per week in the future. ISU benefits are included. It is a term position with opportunity for renewal.
