Unit Specific Position Responsibilities
Performs according to AORN Perioperative Standards and Recommended Practices.
All medications are, administered, and charted according to established policies and procedures.
Assists surgeons, anesthesiologists, and other personnel as needed to ensure good patient care.
Maintains aseptic techniques and actively monitors for breaches in aseptic technique.
Positions patient, prepares operative areas, and adjusts table to proper position according to standard policies.
Prepares the operating room with respect to sterility, cleanliness, equipment, supplies, and availability of implants.
Correctly label specimens and cultures as directed by set policies and procedures.
Serves as the primary coordinator of all disciplines for well coordinated patient care.
Follows Laser Safety Standards and operates Laser as outlined in Laser Operating Manual.
Performs in circulator role, caring for patient, and assisting physician during surgical procedures.
Sets up and operates all equipment used in the operating room.
Performs in scrub role, setting up sterile field and assisting physician with surgical procedures.
Provides age and culturally appropriate care.
Follows Standard Precautions using personal protective equipment.
Cooperates as a member of the perioperative and overall hospital team.
Provides education/orientation/mentoring to new staff, students, and other hospital employees.
Performs related work per orientation and position competency checklists and skills validation.
Assists with transporting and other office functions.
Responsible for on-call duties as scheduled.
Cross trains as needed in Surgical Services.
Assist in room turnovers, restocking room at end of shift, and terminal cleaning assigned room(Standard Work).
Complete monthly assigned cleaning and outdates following Standard Work.
Practices "point of use guidelines" by cleaning and preparing instruments for terminal cleaning.
Perform other assigned duties.
Qualifications, Knowledge & Experience
Required Qualifications (Including any licensure, certification, education):
Licensed as a Registered Nurse and authorized by the State of Iowa to practice nursing or eligible to take licensing exam within four months of hire.
Graduation from a school of nursing or in final semester of nursing school.
Achievement of Baccalaureate degree in nursing within 6 years of hire if hired after January 1, 2014.
Basic Life Support (BLS) training, or within 90 days of hire and must maintain throughout employment.
Mandatory Reporter training or within 90 days of hire and must maintain throughout employment.
If hired prior to graduation and licensure, must graduate and become authorized by the State of Iowa to practice nursing within four months of hire.
De-escalation training prior to performing direct patient care or within 90 days of hire
Baccalaureate degree in nursing.
Professional certification in nursing specialty.

Ability to demonstrate basic computer skills.
Ability to read, write and understand the English language.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills & Experience:
One year nursing experience.
Operating Room Experience.
Knowledgeable in AORN Perioperative Standards and Recommended Practices.
Professional certification-CNOR within 3 years of employment.
