The QC Chemical Technician is responsible for making standards, calibrating equipment: testing, record maintenance, and sampling of chemical products for Operations, frequently involving complex or technique-dependent procedures. Makes technical-based decisions throughout daily work to resolve problems. Provides technical and material support for Operations. Perform in an accurate and expeditious manner all laboratory tests specified for each lot of material or instrument, which is used or sold.

This position is part of the Analytical Services located in Ames, Iowa and will be on-site.

The schedule for this role will be from 2PM TO 12.30 PM from Monday to Thursday.

In this role, a typical day will look like:

  • Prepare laboratory standard solutions, often traceable to NIST, and document as trained.

  • Release conforming material to Operations or stock. Halt shipment of nonconforming or questionable materials. Discuss with Analytical Services and Operations, test results and disposition of materials. Prepare nonconforming notices.

  • Maintain records of test results, equipment re-certification and calibration, identification of manufactured and purchased products, product history files, records of on-time delivery, and product releases.

  • Maintain a clean lab area to prevent contamination.

  • Perform routine maintenance of lab instruments; calibrate equipment used by Operations, and update records accordingly.

  • Comply with company safety policies including safe operation of equipment, PPE usage, safe transportation and handling of bulk chemicals, hand tool safety, lock-out-tag-out, proper storage of tools, etc. Comply with good housekeeping policies.

  • Work closely with technical support staff in the recognition and solving of quality and operations problems.

  • Cross train & balance workload to assure production needs are met.

  • File and maintain organization of retain samples including disposal as needed.

  • Occasionally assist Trainer or Lead in training others in QC Technician duties.

The essential requirements of the job include:

  • HS Diploma/GED required; Bachelor's Degree preferred

  • At least 1 year of scientific laboratory experience.

  • 1 year of college chemistry with lab is required.

SKILLS:

  • Precise analytical technique (use of volumetric glassware to make standard solutions, perform dilutions, and perform titrations).

  • Ability to gather and analyze data

  • Proficient math skills (familiar with metric system and knowledge of algebra)

  • General computer skills: Word, Excel, Outlook, and Internet

  • Professional work attitude in a team environment

  • Proficient in oral and written communication skills

The below range reflects the range of possible compensation for this role at the time of this posting. We may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range. This range may be modified in the future. An associate’s position within the salary range will be based on several factors, including, but not limited to, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, geographic location, performance, shift, travel requirements, sales or revenue-based metrics, any collective bargaining agreements, and business or organizational needs.

The compensation range for this role is $23.00 - $23.00 USD per hour. This job is also eligible for Bonus Pay.
