Mary Greeley Medical Center Marketing Communications Specialist in Ames, Iowa

  • Position Summary

  • • Under supervision of the Director of Marketing and Community Relations and working closely with other members of the department’s team, the Marketing Communications Specialist assists in implementing Mary Greeley Medical Center’s overall marketing communications plan, which advances the strategic goals of the medical center by strengthening its connections to patients and their families; residents of communities in market areas served by the medical center; physicians; medical center staff; donors; and volunteers.

  • Position Responsibilities

  • Unit Specific Position Responsibilities

  • Provide writing support including, but not limited to, press releases, social media content, website content, Health Connect magazine articles, brochures and other patient education materials.

  • Provide design support, including, but not limited to, fliers, signage, print advertising and social media content.

  • Develop with Director and coordinate marketing communications strategies related to advertising program, including print, broadcast, internet and other platforms.

  • Work collaboratively with Marketing and Community Relations team, contributing to all marketing communications programs, including internal communications. Support marketing communications strategies, including campaigns for service line launches and new services or technology.

  • Provide support for special events, including Heart Symposium, Women’s Symposium, Iowa Games and other events

  • Understand health care concepts and communicate them clearly and concisely through various marketing communications vehicles.

  • Understand the needs of the targeted audiences and be able to translate those needs into user-friendly materials.

  • Ensure that all materials follow AP Style guidelines and standards.

  • Help to maintain and manage projects with third party creative and copywriting vendors.

  • Ensures proper and consistent use of logo in internal and external materials, following brand manual.

  • Contribute to planning for process improvement, cost savings and recovery.

  • Perform other assigned duties.

  • Qualifications, Knowledge & Experience

  • Required Qualifications (Including any licensure, certification, education):

  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, advertising, journalism, electronic media or a related communications field.

  • De-escalation training prior to performing direct patient care or within 90 days of hire

  • One or more years of progressive experience in marketing communications, employee communication, or electronic media.

  • Excellent writing, interpersonal, and project management skills.

  • Ability to present materials to emphasize selected themes for diverse audiences; and knowledge of the strengths and weaknesses of different distribution media (web, print, e-mail, social media, etc.), and the ability to tailor content to the strengths of each medium.

  • Strong organizational skills.

  • Experience with graphic design

  • Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in a marketing or advertising agency or health care setting.

  • Experience in internal or employee communications

  • Experience with Adobe Creative Suite.

  • Ability to organize, multi-task and meet deadlines; interpersonal skills needed to work in a team environment with different personalities and work styles.

  • The ability to communicate to a diverse audience using multimedia and new technologies to aid in dissemination of information.

  • Required Knowledge, Skills & Experience:

  • Possession of a current valid driver's license and must maintain eligibility for coverage under Mary Greeley Medical Center's insurance policy

  • Knowledge of software applications (Microsoft Suite, Adobe Creative Suite Design Software (CS5 or above).

  • Strong knowledge of social media tools and trends.

  • Experience working with websites, either directly or in conjunction with a partner agency.

  • Skill in effective oral and written communication in English.

  • Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar.

  • Ability to travel to out-of-hospital and out of community locations to facilitate special events and health fair booths.

  • Ability to keyboard accurately as evidenced by a passing grade in a keyboarding performance test

  • Preferred Knowledge, Skills & Experience:

  • Experience in public relations or marketing department and/or healthcare environment.
