Mary Greeley Medical Center Clinics Manager, Diabetes, Wound, and Pain in Ames, Iowa

Position Summary:

• Under general direction, provides organizational leadership in the development, implementation and maintenance of service consistent with the Mission, Vision, Values and Strategic Plan of the Mary Greeley Medical Center. Leader understands, supports, communicates, and promotes hospital initiatives. Ensures all actions taken in carrying out responsibilities support patient centered care and a respectful work environment.

Unit Specific Position Responsibilities

  • Oversees that all committees, teams, outreach groups, and community advisory programs are in compliance and maintained at a high level of quality.

  • Provides oversight of the diabetes inpatient management team o Provides oversight of the ADA Diabetes DSMES service, ensuring that the DSMES service elements meet the latest National Standards for Diabetes Self-Management Education and Support.

  • Serves as, or oversees the Quality Coordination for Diabetes, Wound, and Pain o Ensure safe operation of hyperbaric chambers o Provide direct patient care when needed

  • Instill a culture of customer service by emphasizing responsiveness, resourcefulness, follow-through, accuracy, timeliness and accountability.

  • Coordinates unit shared decision-making teams; ensures effective utilization of meeting time and that meeting minutes are documented.

  • Creates ownership in decision-making processes by collaborating with others to identify problems, develop solutions, and implements and monitors effectiveness of solutions.

  • Implements, revises, communicate and monitor compliance with organizational and pediatric specific policies and clinical guidelines for safe patient care delivery.

  • Accountable for attendance, participation and dissemination of information from organization and nursing department meetings.

  • Participates in the medical centers’ Quality Improvement plan by gathering and analyzing data associated with continuous improvement of care and services, and monitoring quality control programs.

  • Leads and participates in the Diabetes Center, Wound Care, and Pain Clinic Quality improvement projects.

  • Acts as a department resource for unit-specific core competencies.

  • Ensures diabetes education program meets goals and objectives for acquisition and maintenance of recognition by the State Board of Health, And ADA.

  • Evaluates program content, curriculum and education materials. Coordinates the development and updating/revising of the program’s content, curriculum, and education materials.

  • Participates in the evaluation of instruction content, teaching methods, and performance of all instructors and resource personnel.

  • Provides assessment, teaching, and follow-up instruction to program participants. Assists in the coordination of community education, community screenings, and diabetes support groups.

  • Coordinates the development and review/revision of department’s policies and procedures.

  • Educates and supports team members in doing evidence-based research

  • Facilitates leadership practice and team building.

  • Uses basic knowledge of business management to plan, develop, and execute successful programming.

  • Communicates about billing and reimbursement issues with departments of financial services and contracts or comparable departments.

  • Advocates for funding and support, works with the Mary Greeley Foundation. Qualifications, Knowledge & Experience

    • Required Qualifications (Including any licensure, certification, education):

  • Bachelor’s degree in nursing or other clinical degree

  • De-escalation training prior to performing direct patient care or within 90 days of hire

  • Current Iowa license as a Registered Nurse or other clinical degree

  • Registered Nurse with Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing

    • Minimum of five years clinical nursing experience.
  • Mandatory Reporter training within 90 days of hire and must maintain throughout employment.

    • Preferred Qualifications:

  • Minimum of two years of Leadership Experience.

  • Masters level of education in nursing or health related field •

    Required Knowledge, Skills & Experience:

  • Skill in effective oral and written communication in English.

  • Knowledge of basic arithmetic, algebra, statistics, and their applications.

  • Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar.

  • Active Listening skills, giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times

  • Ability to use logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.

  • Ability to manage one’s time effectively.

  • Five years of nursing practice o Knowledge of instructional skills and educational techniques to influence and guide proper care of diabetes patients for optimal health.

  • Knowledge of preparation, administration, and actions of medications.

  • Knowledge of theory, principles, techniques, and practice of professional nursing specific to specialized field of nursing as it relates to scientific principles; nursing research; preparation, administration and actions of medications and medical procedures; and the ability to operate complex equipment; knowledge of counseling and teaching techniques; of basic management theory.

  • Ability to provide professional nursing care; establish and maintain a working rapport and relationship with physicians and all members of the healthcare team; problem solve and use critical thinking skills; to communicate both verbally and in writing; use computer.

  • Ability to demonstrate clinical competence and maintain current knowledge in caring for appropriate developmental age of population served.

  • Ability to lead others.

  • Ability to understand financial needs of department and organization.

  • Ability to provide oversight to staff and provide corrective action when needed.

  • Ability to gather and synthesize nursing and medical research.

  • Ability to utilize research to create and update policies utilized in the department.

    • Preferred Knowledge, Skills & Experience

  • Two years of progressively responsible leadership experience.

  • Experience in preparing and presenting Power Point presentations.
