Location: Ames

Shift Requirements: (M-F, Flex schedule and teleworking available after a certain period of time. Occasional travel to workshops and conferences.)

As a Bridge Analysis Engineer (Transportation Engineer Specialist), your duties will include, but are not limited to:

  • Management of the AASHTOware Bridge Management System (BrM). You will evaluate the data input from inspectors, develops the rules for determining maintenance programs in conjunction with Iowa State University, and runs scenarios on bridge maintenance options.

  • Maintains the Bridge Management manuals.

  • Produces analyses for the development of the 5-year program using BrM and other appropriate methods.

  • Develops cost estimating and condition deterioration models for BrM.

  • Maintains a working knowledge of the bridge inspection program and data inputs.

  • Provides engineering support and direction in the input and output of the AASHTOWare BrM software.

  • Works with the Bridge Management Engineer to maintain AASHTOware BrM elements in the Structure Inventory and Inspection Management System (SIIMS).

    Minimum Qualification Requirements:

Licensed as a professional engineer. Must have, or prior to appointment, obtain an active Iowa professional engineering license through the Iowa Professional Licensing Bureau - Engineering and Land Surveying Examination Board.

Special Requirements:

Must successfully complete a Federal Highway Administration approved comprehensive bridge inspection training course as required by the National Bridge Inspection Standards prior to appointment or within a period of time designated by the appointing authority.

Minimum Qualification Requirements

Applicants must meet at least one of the following minimum requirements to qualify for positions in this job classification:

1) All of the following (a and b):

a. Licensure as a professional engineer; and

b. Two years of full-time professional work experience in transportation engineering or civil engineering.

2) All of the following (a, b, and c):

a. Licensure as a professional engineer; and

b. One year of full-time professional work experience in transportation engineering or civil engineering; and

c. Graduation from an accredited college or university with a master’s degree in chemical, civil, construction, environmental, materials, structural, or transportation engineering; engineering management; or a field closely related to transportation engineering.

3) Current, continuous experience in the state executive branch that includes one year of full-time work as a Transportation Engineer.

Additional Qualification Requirements

Prior to appointment, applicants must possess active licensure as a professional engineer by the Iowa Engineering & Land Surveying Examining Board.
