Amentum Shipping & Receiving Clerk - Lead in Amarillo, Texas

Amentum is seeking a Shipping & Receiving Lead Clerk to join our 2nd shift team for GE Renewables in Amarillo, TX.

Typical work schedule is 2:00 PM – 10:30 PM; hours may vary based on business demand.

The Lead will work to direct a team and perform individually, work to procedures, identify needed changes to procedures and assist in developing/revising written procedures. The lead will be responsible for adhering to all EHS policies/procedures. Provides instruction and assistance to other employees as needed. Must be self-motivated and demonstrate the strong organizational time management skills needed to be successful in this role.

Essential Functions:

  • Support team objectives and remain focused on safety, quality and timely execution

  • Work within the sites schedule requirements

  • Provide oversight on contractors as needed

  • Participate in pre-work meetings to discuss daily work requirements, plans, schedules, hazards and work requirements

  • Verifies and keeps records on incoming and outgoing shipments and prepares items for shipment.

  • Compares identifying information and counts, weighs, or measures items of incoming and outgoing shipments to verify information against bills of lading, invoices, orders, or other records.

  • Keeps inventory of shipping materials and supplies maintained and keeps records of all materials and equipment that enters or leave the facility.

  • Unpacks and examines incoming shipments, rejects damaged items, records and reports shortages and discrepancies, and corresponds with shipper to rectify damages and shortages.

  • Receives and processes defective items returned for replacement or credit.

  • Routes checked incoming materials, supplies, or equipment to the stockroom, appropriate departments, or other areas.

  • Prepares products or materials for shipment.

  • Assembles shipping containers or selects pre-assembled containers, and inserts items to be shipped into containers, using spacers, fillers, and protective padding.

  • Closes and seals packages to be shipped.

  • Recommends method of shipment, utilizing knowledge of shipping procedures, routes, and rates.

  • Affixes shipping labels, identifying information, and shipping instructions onto packed cartons or containers.

  • Posts weights and shipping charges, and affixes postage.

  • Examines outgoing shipments to ensure shipments meets specifications.

  • Prepares bills of lading and maintains documentation of goods shipped.

  • Maintains inventory of shipping materials and supplies.

  • Performs computer functions necessary to-track various aspects of goods.

  • May operate tier-lift truck or use hand truck to move, convey, or hoist shipments from shipping and receiving platform to storage or work areas.

  • May direct others in preparing outgoing and receiving incoming shipments.

  • Maintain professional and courteous customer relations including, client, vendor, and internal team.

  • Maintain safety work practices as define by Amentum and the client.

  • Perform all work safely and with the utmost concern for the safety of self and other employees.

  • Perform all work in compliance with environmental rules and regulations.

  • Other duties as assigned by Management or Lead.

Minimum Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

  • Technical certification or specialized training.

  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in materials management.

  • Understands warehousing terminology, measures, and concepts.

  • Consistent proven work history.

  • Ability to do detail-oriented work and complete projects on time.

  • Basic computer knowledge.

Additional Information:

  • Qualified applicants who are offered a position must pass a pre-employment substance abuse test.

  • This position will require the ability to obtain a security access badge at our client’s location.

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain facility credentials/authorization. Note: U.S. Citizenship is required for facility credentials/authorization at this work location.

Physical Requirements:

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feet; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear.

  • The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; climb or balance, and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.

  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, and ability to adjust focus.

  • Some tasks will require repetitive wrist movement.

  • Requires the ability to regularly lift to 50 lbs.

  • Requires the ability to regularly climb extension ladders, roof ladder, stepladders, and stairs at least 10 times during shift.

  • Requires the flexibility to bend/stoop, squat repetitive during shift.

  • Requires the ability to regularly kneel repetitive for shift.

  • Requires the ability to move in a 90-degree fashion on a repetitive basis for shift.

  • Requires the ability to stretch/reach on a repetitive basis for shift.

  • Requires the ability to walk extensively throughout the plant during shift.

  • Requires the use of a Company/Client approved utility knife.

  • Requires the ability to differentiate colors pertaining to wire color-coding.

  • Some tasks will require repetitive wrist movement.

  • Requires the ability to interact with all clients in a professional and friendly manner despite periods of stress.

Special Requirements:

  • Wear steel toe safety shoes, safety glasses, gloves, hard hats, and other Personal Protective Equipment as needed.

  • Cope with demands (stressors) that are associated with the job and/or the work environment so that acceptable levels of performance and overall contribution are maintained.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in Receiving Dock or Warehouse environment.

  • Light manufacturing or assembly experience.

  • Electronics/computer training and/or experience.

  • Higher education courses and/or relevant work experience.

  • Excellent communications and interpersonal skills.

  • Team players open to new ideas and continuous improvement.
