Amentum Lead Painter Technician III in Amarillo, Texas

Amentum is seeking a Lead Painter Technician III to join our 1st shift industrial maintenance team in Amarillo, TX!

Typical work schedule is 6:30 AM – 3:00 PM; hours may vary based on business demand.

The Painter will work to direct a team and perform individually, to complete sanding and coating applications on large wind turbine components. The Painter lead will work to procedures, identify needed changes to procedures and assist in developing/revising written procedures. Painter lead will be responsible for adhering to all EHS policies/procedures. Provides instruction and assistance to other technicians as needed. Must be self-motivated and demonstrate the strong organizational time management skills needed to be successful in this role.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Support team objectives and remain focused on safety, quality and timely execution

  • Work within the product schedule requirements

  • Provide oversight on contractors as needed

  • Participate in pre-work meetings to discuss lift plans, schedule, hazards and work requirements

  • Perform pre-coating tasks, such as sanding and masking

  • Apply paint coatings per specification requirements

  • Apply paint coatings using rollers and paint spray equipment

  • Troubleshoot sanding/painting equipment and understand

  • Help in all areas of work preparation (coordination of labor and materials) with minimal supervision

  • Document all work performed using computer-based service reporting procedures as applicable

  • Communicate work status to management, leads and engineering as required

  • Document/log paint consumed materials and catalog inventory

  • Operate overhead crane to transport wind turbine components

Minimum Requirements:

  • High school diploma or demonstrated equivalent.

  • 3 years as a Residential or Commercial Painter.

Additional Information:

  • Qualified applicants who are offered a position must pass a pre-employment substance abuse test.

  • This position may require a valid Driver’s License.

  • Basic computer skills

  • This position does not include sponsorship for United States work authorization.

  • This position will require the ability to obtain a security access badge at our client’s location.

  • This position may require various shifts, weekends, and alternative work schedules.

Physical Requirements:

  • Requires the ability to regularly lift up to 50 lbs.

  • Requires the ability to regularly climb extension ladders, roof ladder, stepladders, and stairs at least 10 times during shift.

  • Requires the flexibility to bend/stoop, squat repetitive during shift.

  • Requires the ability to regularly kneel repetitive for shift.

  • Requires the ability to move in a 90-degree fashion on a repetitive basis for shift.

  • Requires the ability to stretch/reach on a repetitive basis for shift.

  • Requires the ability to walk extensively throughout the plant during shift.

  • Requires the use of a Company/Client approved utility knife.

  • Requires the ability to differentiate colors pertaining to wire color-coding.

  • Some tasks will require repetitive wrist movement.

  • Requires the ability to interact with all clients in a professional and friendly manner despite periods of stress.

Special Requirements:

  • Wear steel toe safety shoes, safety glasses, gloves and other Personal Protective Equipment as needed.

  • Cope with demands (stressors) that are associated with the job and/or the work environment so that acceptable levels of performance and overall contribution are maintained.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience as a painter in an industrial environment.

  • Experience repairing drywall.

  • Experience operating and working out of manlifts and off of ladders.

  • Experience taping off

  • Must be willing to work overtime when required. May be required to work holidays and weekends.

  • Ability to work with a wide variety of personnel at all levels

  • Manufacturing experience

  • Wind turbine experience

  • Coating experience

  • Ability and willingness to take initiative, and work without direct supervision

  • Paint equipment experience

  • OSHA experience

  • Crane experience
