Amarillo College Faculty - Engineering in Amarillo, Texas

This is an exciting time to work for Amarillo College! We are seeking our next Engineering Faculty who will be all-in on our mission and who will develop the course curriculum and teach classroom, laboratory, tech-supported, or online courses.

Requirements

EDUCATION

Required: Master’s Degree in Engineering.

Preferred: Master’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Materials Engineering with 18 graduate hours in Math or Computer Science.

EXPERIENCE

Required: One (1) year of industry experience as an Engineer or post-secondary teaching experience in engineering.

Preferred: One (1) year of post-secondary teaching experience in engineering and supervisory experience including but not limited to managing budgets, inventories, ordering supplies, employee evaluations and team leadership.

JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Exhibit effective teaching in Engineering courses.

  • Teach Engineering by incorporating high-impact teaching practices as well as learner-centered pedagogies with an emphasis on active learning strategies.

  • Develop curriculum and prepare syllabus, keeping course content consistent with the catalog description.

  • Develop on-line courses focused on student success.

  • Demonstrate commitment to student success, innovation, collaboration and instructional quality.

  • Perform teaching activities, including classroom/online instruction, direction projects, and assisting with student coursework, research, and internships.

  • Teach subject matter field in person and online.

  • Assist with student registration and participate in recruitment activities.

  • Attend briefings on procedures, advising, registration and general policy.

  • Attend faculty meetings, general assembly, and commencement.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITES:

  • Ability to understand and apply learner-centered and high impact instructions methods.

  • Ability to work with and motivate students.

  • Ability to demonstrate excellent teaching skills.

  • Ability to work under stress.

  • Ability to work well with a team or independently.

  • Ability to deal with people in a professional manner.

  • Knowledge of SolidWorks, MatLab, and spreadsheets

  • Ability to speak and make effective presentations.

  • Proficient Interpersonal, Verbal, and Written Communication Skills to convey information effectively.

  • Ability to use instructional aids in teaching (i.e. computer, multi-media, etc.)

  • Ability to learn, or have experience in, online teaching.

  • Ability to deliver active learning and learning centered pedagogies in the classroom.

  • Excellent oral, written and listening skills, including computer skills sufficient for email, course development and course management.

Faculty Salary: Amarillo College - Salary Schedules (actx.edu) (https://www.actx.edu/hr/salary-schedules) , salary is determined by the Faculty Placement Schedule and the Faculty Salary Questionnaire.

Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to travel between offices and buildings, and requires the ability to lift, carry, push, pull and/or maneuver office supplies as needed.

Working Conditions: Must be willing to work a flexible schedule (days, nights, weekends, holidays, and varying events if necessary.)

Work Environment: This position operates in a professional office environment, routinely uses standard office equipment (i.e. computers, phones, copy and fax machines, filing cabinets) and is in a high traffic area with continual interruptions. Software commonly used includes Microsoft Office, Colleague, and various other educational applications. Work may also be performed outside of the office and with little to no supervision.
