Amarillo College Café Manager in Amarillo, Texas

This is an exciting time to work for Amarillo College! We are seeking our next Café Manger who will be all-in on our mission and who will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of AC’s café and concession stand, which serves the student body, faculty, and staff. The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership skills, a customer service mind-set, and a passion for providing high-quality food service in a fast-paced environment.

Requirements

EDUCATION

Required: High School Diploma or GED

Preferred: Associate’s Degree in Business, Marketing or related field.

CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSES:

Required: Food Manager Certificate or will obtain within 30 days of employment.

EXPERIENCE

Required: One (1) to Two (2) years of experience as a supervisor in the food service industry.

Preferred: One (1) to Two (2) years of managing a food service operation.

JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Collaborate with culinary staff to develop innovative and appealing menu offerings that cater to the preferences and dietary needs of the college community.

  • Foster a welcoming and inclusive environment that promotes positive interactions and customer loyalty.

  • Monitor inventory levels, place orders for supplies, and manage vendor relationships to ensure adequate stock levels and cost-effectiveness.

  • Recruit, train, and supervise café staff.

  • Implement strategies to maximize profitability while maintaining competitive pricing and value for customers.

  • Reconcile cash register and follow record retention protocols when preparing deposits.

  • Facilitate repairs, regular maintenance, and other café services as needed.

  • Participate in campus initiatives and activities to promote the café and enhance its visibility within the college community.

  • Operate the point-of-sale (POS) machine.

  • Assist with preparation of the food and drinks and maintain a clean work area.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Ability to work well under pressure in a fast-paced enviornment.

  • Ability to proactively identify staffing challenges, such as understaffing or overstaffing, and implement solutions to optimize efficiency and productivity.

  • Strong time management skills to prioritize tasks, allocate resources effectively, and meet scheduling deadlines amidst competing demands.

  • Demonstrated experience in profit-driven restaurant or food service operation.

  • Familiarity with local and state health and safety regulations.

  • Excellent customer service and communication skills.

  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.

Salary: Amarillo College - Salary Schedules (actx.edu) (https://www.actx.edu/hr/salary-schedules) , Pay grade 11 (salary is determined by Human Resources based on education, work experience and internal comparisons).

Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to travel between offices and buildings, and requires the ability to lift, carry, push, pull and/or maneuver office supplies as needed.

Working Conditions: Must be willing to work a flexible schedule (days, nights, weekends, holidays, and varying events if necessary.)

Work Environment: This position operates within a dynamic and professional kitchen environment as well as a professional office environment. Work may also be performed outside of the office and with little to no supervision.
