UPMC Medical Assistant - Lab Data Entry in Altoona, Pennsylvania
UPMC Altoona Regional Health Services is hiring a full-time Medical Assistant - Lab Data Entry. This role will work Monday - Friday 8 am - 4:30 pm.
This position assures accurate entry of laboratory test results to physicians in EMR and assures proper and accurate collection, receipt and processing of patient specimens for testing according to office procedures.
Responsibilities:
Seeks out other data entry when lab entry is complete for the day.
Follows CLIA and OSHA rules for quality assurance and safety in Lab.
Observes safety rules for collection and processing of blood, which includes but is not limited to wearing gloves, goggles and or protective gown.
Reports test results to the ordering physician in a timely manner.
Assists with patient collection when designated.
Collects envelopes from Lab mailboxes and enters the results accurately and in a timely manner into Electronic Medical Record for physicians' review.
Prepares lab for the next day's work, including but not limited to next day's schedule, workstations stocked and cleaned and lab counters cleaned.
Collects specimen for company clinical trial studies or drug screens; completes necessary paperwork.
Draws pints of blood per physician order (250 to 500cc)
Follows the preservation and processing requirements for each test performed in the office.
Labels sample containers with identifying data including patient name, date of birth, social security number or lab accession number and requested test.
Delivers samples to laboratory for analysis.
Graduate of an accredited clinical program, Medical Assistant program and lab experience preferred.
Computer knowledge and experience required.
Medical terminology required.
Phlebotomy experience preferred. If no prior experience, must be Phlebotomy trained within six months.
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence/memos.
Must have the ability to effectively give instructions to patients and relay information to physicians, supervisors and managers.
