Job Description:

Schnabel Engineering is seeking a Project Geotechnical Engineer to support our growing business. Qualified candidates will be well-rounded, organized problem solvers with an interest in managing complex projects, working within a team of skilled engineers, and developing early career professionals. The qualified candidate should be developing experience in the application of soil mechanics fundamentals and practice of geotechnical engineering for design of deep foundations, spread foundations, retaining walls, embankments, slope stability, seepage and consolidation, and ground improvement , particularly on water resources and transportation infrastructure projects.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Develop geotechnical engineering scope of services and fee estimates

  • Planning and oversight of geotechnical subsurface explorations

  • Manage/review geotechnical and construction phase observation and testing field work performed by others

  • Assign, review and interpret geotechnical laboratory tests

  • Perform/review geotechnical engineering analyses and calculations

  • Develop geotechnical engineering recommendations and write geotechnical engineering reports

  • Perform project management activities including communicating resource needs, managing client expectations, planning and delegating work, management of project budgets, invoicing and backlog reporting

  • Capable of managing client relationships and business development opportunities with increased experience

  • Capable of managing and mentoring staff, geologists and technicians with increased experience

  • Work as a team member within the office and across the business unit in other Schnabel offices to effectively balance workload among available resources

Required Skills/Experience:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET-accredited program

  • Licensed Professional Engineer with the ability to obtain by comity , or able to obtain Professional Engineer license within 12 months of engagement.

  • 4+ years of relevant professional experience in consulting geotechnical engineering

  • Willingness and ability to travel

  • AutoCAD and GIS skills suitable for developing geotechnical deliverables

  • Ability to advance proficiency with geotechnical engineering analysis software such as LPILE, APILE and SHAFT, GeoStudio, Settle3D and FoSSA, OpenGround, or similar programs.

  • Strong oral and written communication skills

  • Ability to multi-task

  • Strong work ethic and a desire for continual self-improvement

  • Ability to thrive in a collaborative team environment

  • Confidence and independence, with a shared sense of responsibility

Preferred Skills/Experience:

  • Project management experience for a variety of transportation projects

  • Some background knowledge of the transportation market in the Southeastern USA, and ability to develop client relationships

  • Experience with transportation agency policies, procedures (e.g. GDOT, SCDOT, NCDOT, FDOT) and requirements

  • Ability to support geotechnical aspects of dam and tunnel engineering projects

Other Requirements:

  • Ability to pass a background check which may include criminal history, motor vehicle record and credit check

  • Ability to pass a pre-employment screening
