What is it that we do at Colonial Pipeline Company?

Colonial Pipeline is the largest refined products pipeline in the United States, transporting more than 100 million gallons or 2.5 million barrels per day. Colonial transports various grades of gasoline, diesel fuel, home heating oil, jet fuel, and fuels for the U.S. military through a pipeline system. Colonial transports approximately 45 percent of all fuel consumed on the East Coast, providing refined products to more than 50 million Americans.

About the Fuel Optimization Engineer (Senior or Staff) Position

Depending on the candidate pool this position maybe filled at the Senior or Staff level. As the Fuel Optimization Engineer, you will apply engineering fundamentals, hydraulic principles, data analytics and broad cross-functional collaboration to ensure approved pipeline fuels optimization projects are executed efficiently and ongoing operations maximize overall business value. In this role, you will utilize written and verbal skills, and the ability to scope projects and effectively manage diverse groups of people working to solve common problems.

What You Get to Do:

  • Develop and implement optimization strategies for the fuels optimization process to maximize product quality and efficiency.

  • Conduct a thorough analysis of quality parameters, including material composition, temperature, pressure, and flow rates, to identify areas for improvement.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including production, quality control, and research and development, to ensure seamless integration of optimization strategies.

  • Utilize advanced modeling and simulation tools to predict and evaluate the impact of different fuels optimization scenarios on product quality and performance.

  • Monitor and analyze real-time data from fuels optimization operations to identify deviations from optimal conditions and implement corrective actions.

  • Conduct regular audits and inspections of fuels optimization equipment and systems to ensure compliance with safety and environmental regulations.

  • Develop and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs) for the fuel’s optimization process, ensuring consistency and adherence to best practices.

  • Apply current industry trends, advancements, and emerging technologies related to fuels optimization and propose innovative solutions to enhance the fuels optimization process and train technicians and operators.

What You Bring to the Table:

  • Bachelors in Engineering from an accredited college or university; will consider a combination of experience and/or education.

  • Ideally, 5+ years of engineering experience and/or 3+ years engineering and data analytics work experience in oil/ gas or related industry, with modeling and pipeline or terminal optimization.

  • Ability to travel up to 20% of the time.

  • Strong financial and technical analysis skills, with the ability to interpret complex data and identify optimization opportunities.

  • Proficient in the utilization of engineering theories and practices.

  • Familiar with pipeline or terminal system operations, safety and environmental regulations, system equipment, and the techniques and methodology for system technical analysis.

  • Strong understanding of material properties, fuels optimization techniques, and industry standards.

  • Ability to communicate effectively, collaborate with cross functional teams, and focus on details regarding quality and continuous improvement.

  • Professional Engineer and/or Project Management Professional Certification

  • Experience with Advanced Analytics tools or other platforms (e.g., Aspen HYSYS, Power BI, Spotfire, SSEQ, SAS)
