Material Finisher / Dip Room

SUMMARY: Tends equipment that chemically cleans grease, scale, dirt, and other foreign matter from metal objects to prepare them for assembly or further welding or brazing. Also cleans equipment. Employee must receive training and is required to wear personal protective equipment; safety glasses, face shield, steel tip shoes, gloves and apron.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESinclude the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Supports all brazing and welding operations which require cleaning of materials before process. Removes excess solder and burn marks from brazed spool pieces. Places objects on racks, in containers or on hooks and immerses objects in chemical and rinsing solutions. Cleans product with brushes. Dries objects with air tools. Examines cleaned objects to ensure compliance to standards. Takes chemical reading and logs results. Adds chemicals to obtain correct PH levels. Polishes metal to obtain a finish as defined on drawing. Performs housekeeping duties required on weekly basis; mopping, sweeping, keeping work area organized. Orders material for cleaning process and metal finishing; chemicals, supplies, belts, buffing compound.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or six months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
