Ford Motor Company Ford Performance Vehicle Dynamics CAE Engineer in Allen Park, Michigan

Ford Performance is seeking an engineer to join our Simulation and CAE Group. This position involves utilizing CAE tools and software as well as developing new tools and methods to support program architecture decisions, full vehicle handling analysis as well as validate testing and performance predictions. This position is located at the Ford Performance Offices in Allen Park, Mi.

What you'll do…

  • Create and maintain full vehicle ADAMS and CarSim models for our current and future performance cars and trucks

  • Work closely with the Advanced Systems Engineering Group defining new product suspension and chassis designs in the provided environment

  • Establish suspension and vehicle handling performance based on target attributes, benchmark vehicles, test data and related Health Chart metrics

  • Support vehicle testing and attribute measurement associated with validating the CAE models and vehicle parameters

  • Develop and integrate vehicle controls models into the dynamic simulations using MATLAB and Simulink tools

  • Utilize CAE tools and test results to support the delivery of the companies high performance cars and trucks with full vehicle and suspension system modeling

  • Utilize the CAE tools to support and direct efficient vehicle development and design processes – the CAE Group is a part of the Advanced Systems Engineering Group defining new product suspension and chassis designs

  • Implement and refine existing CAE modeling tools and where necessary develop new tools to improve performance, steering and handling predictions

  • Inform planned vehicle tests and interpret test results as part of the Vehicle Dynamics and Simulations team

  • Analyze full vehicle test data to creates specific attribute targets and ensure hardware choices support those targets

  • Support the Full Vehicle Simulation Modeling work including travel to the FTC full vehicle simulator and other off-site test locations 3-5 days per month

What you'll have…

  • B.S. in Engineering

  • 3+ years of automotive CAE or chassis design experience

  • 2+ years of experience using multi-body dynamics tools like ADAMS, ADAMS Car or similar software

  • 2+ years of experience using full vehicle parametric models like CarSim

  • 2+ years of experience using programming languages MATLAB, C+, VisualBasic or similar tools

Even better, you'll have…

  • M.S. in Engineering

  • Experience with automotive suspension design and analysis

  • Performance or Racing vehicle design or modeling experience

  • 3+ years of use and knowledge of controls system theory related to active and semi-active suspension systems, steering, brake controls or powertrain controls (any of these)

  • Experience with any of the Ford CAE tool kits

This position is a range of salary grades 7-8 .
