Ford Motor Company Ford Performance Advanced Systems Engineer in Allen Park, Michigan

Ford Performance is looking for a pre-program Advanced Architecture concepts and chassis mechanical package engineer to support the initial package of chassis, body, suspension and related interfaces for all future Ford Performance cars and trucks. The engineer will work closely with the vehicle dynamics CAE group to establish and maintain suspension hardpoints, component packages, tire envelopes and related system designs.

What you'll do…

  • Lead pre-program and early concept architecture design and mechanical package development including suspension packaging, wheel and tire clearances, vehicle dimension and ground clearance specifications and powertrain package.

  • Coordinate efforts between cross-functional activities including vehicle engineering, design and release, CAE and suppliers to ensure architectural compatibility between vehicle targets and mechanical package.

  • Lead development of alternatives and solutions that meet the program attribute targets, tooling capability, costs and assembly feasibility.

  • Crate and maintain key design information including suspension motion, tire envelopes, system selection and associated data documentation.

  • Demonstrate teamwork and leadership skills, managing multiple projects and competing system attribute targets.

  • Outstanding communication skills both orally and through CAD or document presentations.

  • Support verification and design validation including the creation of prototype vehicles, components and systems as well as the development of those products.

  • Provide and effective liaison with suppliers and other engineering groups communicating design CAD, system targets and related documentation.

  • Regular on-site participation at our Allen Park office necessary as part of the collaborative engineering process.

You'll have…

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or similar automotive engineering field

  • 3+ years of experience in automotive product design, development or occupant packaging

  • 3+ years of experience and knowledge with Boddy/Chassis/Powertrain systems design and function

  • 3+ years of experience utilizing design and product development tools like CATIA, Teamcenter VisMockup, KBE tools

  • Proficiency with MS Office Applications

This position is a range of salary grades 5-8 .
