About the Internship

This paid, part-time internship with the Learning Department of the New York Small Business Development Center is designed to provide the student with experience in planning, coordinating, and tracking data on internal professional development opportunities for NYSBDC staff members and external business educational programming for potential, current, and past clients of the NYSBDC statewide. The intern may also assist in educational product development. This work will be performed under the direction of the Coordinator of Learning and Organizational Development from the NYSBDC's Central Office.

About the NYSBDC

The NYSBDC is a network of 20 campus-based centers located across NY State, along with a central office based in Albany. The NYSBDC provides no-cost, high-quality business advising, research, and advocacy services, as well as free and at-cost business education. These services, made possible by funding from the SBA, New York State, and host academic institutions, are offered to the public on a non-discriminatory basis.

About the Marketing & Communications Department

The NYSBDC Marketing & Communications Department is responsible for all aspects of communications for the organization including activities in marketing, public relations and public affairs. We are responsible for all elements of how the NYSBDC is perceived across the state. We provide oversight and guidance for the 20 business centers across the state and are responsible for compliance and accreditation around communications-related elements for the organization.

Job Duties:

This Marketing & Communications internship is designed to give the intern experience in various real-world communications competencies as listed below. As part of the intern program and process we have built out the intern will assist both the Communications Coordinator & Marketing Strategist, and the Director of Marketing & Communications in a variety of tasks related to the following:

Marketing & Communications Competencies Addressed in this Internship:

  • Assist with new brand launch and website launch occurring in fall of 2025

  • Build and help guide NYSBDC's monthly editorial calendar to build engagement and interaction, and drive messaging with 22 centers across New York State.

  • Create engaging content for NYSBDC communication channels that showcase our network, success stories of clients across the state, and educational work.

  • Assist with strategic communications, messaging and planning across the network.

  • When needed help develop and build relationships with community stakeholders, partners, and local media outlets.

  • Contribute to the organizational vision and communications strategy as a key member of the NYSBDC team

  • Contribute to the organization's rebranding strategy & approach. Assist with building new shells and templates with the new statewide brand.

    Job Requirements:

Required Education/Qualifications:

  • Open to freshman, sophomore, junior and senior undergraduate and graduate students.

Preferred Education/Qualifications:

  • Ideally working towards a degree in communications, design, education or a related field;

  • Experience in creative fields preferred, particularly visual design.

  • Strong writing, editing, and storytelling skills

  • Experience with social media platforms

Pay Rate for this position will be $20.00 an hour
