The SHRM Foundation’s Program Manager is a dynamic and proven leader who executes the strategy, administers, and evaluates SHRM Foundation’s programming through innovation, collaboration, and project impact.

The Skills First at Work Program Manager is responsible for overall project and program management, ensuring the quality and achievement of intended impact. This position will focus on the aspects of the Foundation’s work to widen pathways to work by driving a holistic, “whole human” approach to hiring, retention, and growth of skills-based talent. Through specific programs and grants, we are particularly focused on creating the conditions where employers can embrace a “skills-first” attitude: one in which they embrace the full spectrum of skills, talents, aptitudes, and competencies that a prospect for work has accumulated over the course of their lives and can bring to bear at work.

Responsibilities:

  • Manages the work for a series of mainly Skills First related programs and grants managing budgets, monitoring expenditure and tracking results.

  • Responsible for preparing progress reports, compliance, and maintaining records related to grant-funded programs.

  • Provides ongoing oversight, ensuring quality control and consistency of participation and evaluation of program initiatives and components.

  • Leads research, tool and training development, pilots, decisionmaker education efforts, and communications efforts related to skills-first hiring and advancement, apprenticeship and other earn-and-learn models, skills validation, social capital, and other key related topics.

  • Manages multiple projects and working groups simultaneously for all assigned programs.

  • Collaborates with SHRM research and SHRM product development and certification teams to develop and maintain program products as appropriate.

  • Develops annual and monthly operational plans to monitor and ensure SHRM Foundation’s strategic plan objectives are met and exceeded.

  • Serves as a liaison to marketing, accounting, and other relevant departments in managing program communications and budgets and developing and overseeing contracts.

  • Actively collaborates with the SHRM Foundation Engagement and Philanthropy team to develop donor solicitation ideas and proposals, participate in donor meetings, and track the fulfillment of donor commitments related to the SHRM Foundation’s programs and initiatives, all SHRM Foundation events/conferences and awards.

  • Manages vendor relationships directly impacting SHRM Foundation inclusion initiative programs and SHRM Foundation events and awards where appropriate.

  • Represents SHRM Foundation’s efforts linked to inclusion initiative work with public relations, communications, and marketing activities.

  • Engages with SHRM Membership and Government Affairs departments related to inclusion initiatives and programs to ensure alignment, coordination of efforts, and identification of opportunities to leverage the work of the SHRM Foundation.

  • May be assigned to other initiatives and programs as necessary.

Position Requirements

  • At least eight (8) years of progressive program and leadership experience, preferably within the non-profit space. Specific focus on programming, communications and public relations, and project management of products, events/convenings, and research/evaluation projects.

  • Demonstrate aptitude in written and verbal communications, program/project ideation and management, coalition/community of practice creation and facilitation, budget development and assessment, funder/investor relations, and people management.

  • Preferred knowledge of the HR field; formal/professional knowledge of talent management space; and an understanding of broader processes for creating employer-inclusive movements and managing change.

  • Experience in volunteer, board member, and donor management.

Certifications

  • None required.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Demonstrate a specific aptitude around landscape research and analysis; complex project management; philanthropic and CSR/ESG-related activities; and program articulation, development, and assessment.

  • Ability to articulate overarching strategy and manage multiple projects; an eye for detail paired with an appreciation and understanding of the bigger picture.

  • Outstanding sponsor/donor/investor, partner, and peer collaboration and negotiation skills.

  • Ability to speak to CEOs, practitioners, and everyone in between confidently and competently. Ability to position new ideas and ways of doing business that inspire and excite stakeholders.

  • Highly proficient at working cross-functionally and collaboratively across departments and with separate partners and stakeholders.

  • Excellent organizational planning, presentation, and professional writing skills in English.

Other Requirements

  • Must be able to perform essential duties satisfactorily with reasonable accommodations.

  • Work is regularly performed in a combination of office and conference settings and routinely uses standard office equipment.

  • This position will be based in SHRM’s Alexandria, VA offices, and must be able to work in-person Tuesday through Thursday each week.

  • Travel required 20%-30% of time.

The hiring range for this position is $95,000 to $118,000 per year. This range is an estimate and the actual salary may vary based on the candidate's experience, skills, and qualifications. SHRM offers a competitive and comprehensive total rewards package.
