Position Overview:This position supports theUnited States Coast Guard as a Lean Six Sigma Master Black Belt supporting the Business and Logistics Management Support Services office. The Lean Six Sigma (LSS) Master Black Belt (MBB) will play a key role in mentoring Government LSS Black Belt and Green Belt candidates, assisting them in completing LSS improvement projects, and certifying the completion of these projects when appropriate. The LSS MBB will support the missions and requirements of the organizational component at the Call Order level by implementing procedures for process development, monitoring, and improvement across multiple locations in alignment with LSS best practices. Additionally, the LSS MBB will develop and provide training in LSS/Continual Process Improvement (CPI) fundamentals and advanced facilitation training.

Job Type:Full-time/Exempt

Location: Alexandria, VA or National Capital Region

Anticipated Start Date: April 2025

Position Responsibilities:

  • Mentor and assist Government LSS Black Belt and Green Belt candidates in completing LSS improvement projects.

  • Certify completion of candidate improvement projects as needed.

  • Support organizational missions and requirements by implementing process development, monitoring, and improvement procedures across multiple locations.

  • Develop and provide training for Government-appointed personnel in LSS/CPI fundamentals (e.g., “Yellow Belt”) and advanced LSS/CPI facilitation training.

  • Conduct detailed research and analysis of technical data.

  • Plan and facilitate improvement working sessions.

  • Read and interpret acquisition policy, regulations, and directives.

Requirements

Position Requirements:

  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Industrial-Organizational Psychology, Business Management, Information Technology, Industrial Engineering, or a related field.

  • Certified Lean Six Sigma Master Black Belt by an appropriate certifying authority. Preferred certifying authorities include the Department of Defense or American Society for Quality.

  • Certified Scrum Master certification by an agency accredited by the Scrum Alliance and/or Capability Maturity Model Integration (CMMI) Associate certification by the CMMI Institute may be required at the Call Order level.

  • Minimum of eight (8) years of experience in completing Lean Six Sigma improvement projects post-certification.

  • Expertise in planning and facilitating improvement working sessions.

  • Knowledge of advanced practices from Lean, Six Sigma, Theory of Constraints, and other improvement bodies of knowledge, with the ability to develop and provide training in these areas.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite applications (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams, SharePoint).

  • Skilled in conducting detailed research and analysis of technical data.

  • Ability to read and interpret acquisition policy, regulations, and directives.

Preferred Skills/Experience:

  • Previous experience working with the United States Coast Guard in a business or performance-related position.

  • Experience supporting organization improvement / realignment initiatives to improve efficiency and performance.
