Patent and Trademark Office Information Technology Specialist in Alexandria, Virginia
Summary This position is responsible for researching, configuring, and testing information technologies (IT) and audio visual technologies (AV) of interest yet to be implemented in support of GIPA's worldwide mission. The incumbent will look for additional efficiencies within the current environment to identify processes that can be improved through automation. Responsibilities The physical worksite for this position is located in Alexandria, Virginia. This position is telework eligible per agency and business unit discretion/policy. This position is located in the U. S. Patent and Trademark Office, Office of Policy and International Affairs (OPIA), Global Intellectual Property Academy (GIPA). You enjoy providing expert-level IT advice to GIPA; supporting GIPA and OPIA managers and staff by advising on business process centric software and hardware needs, and on new technology. You desire to serve as liaison between the client and contractors; Consults and coordinates with counterparts in the Office of the Chief Information Officer, Office of the Chief Communications Office, as well as with other USPTO offices and outreach functions, on behalf of OPIA and GIPA You enjoy creating applications that enhance user-developed content to meet business and technical requirements. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications You must meet the United States Office of Personnel Management's (OPM) qualification requirements (including specialized experience and/or educational requirements) for the advertised position. OPM Qualifications Standards are available at IT Management Series 2210 Specialized Experience is experience that has equipped applicants with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the position to be filled. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the federal service. For this position, the next lower grade level is a GS-12. Specialized experience for this position includes: Experience in determining equipment needs for teleconference and distance learning events; Experience in providing system support and training to users on procedures for IT and audio/visual equipment and systems; and Experience in participating in coordinating meetings as the technical expert and offering technical guidance to customers regarding capabilities in and limitations of audio/visual equipment and processes. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
