ASCO is currently seeking an Associate Director, Publication Production to lead operations for ASCO Publishing products. Responsibilities

  • Oversee the ASCO Daily News, ASCO Educational Book, and ASCO Connection article production workflows, directing the production and delivery of print and digital products; and manage vendor relationships and collaborate with internal editorial and stakeholder teams.
  • Oversee production workflows for ASCO Meeting Abstracts and Programs, ensuring timely delivery while recognizing business and stakeholder needs
  • Collaborate with external vendors and ASCO Journals team to lead the continual improvement of content production processes
  • Develop and manage RFP processes for production-related tasks for ASCO Publishing products
  • Develop and track department annual operating budget for production services
  • Maintain production process benchmarks, metrics, and dashboards to ensure timely deliverables
  • Direct the creation and maintenance of production schedules, in collaboration with internal editorial teams and stakeholders and external vendors
  • Collaborate with editorial teams to develop and/or maintain process documentation for all content deliverables
  • Initiate reviews of and changes to vendor partnerships to achieve cost and operational efficiencies and to integrate process and technological innovations
  • Maintain the ASCO Style Manual for journals and publications to include the prefered language on gender, race, and ethnicity
  • Supervise and mentor staff to achieve their results and career goals through mentorship, feedback, and task delegation

Required Education and Experience

  • Bachelors degree or equivalent experience in print and digital publishing
  • 7+ years experience in publishing production roles, both digital and print
  • 3 years of supervisory experience
  • Proficient knowledge of publishing workflows: editorial and peer-review, production, print and electronic publication
  • Proficient in style manual adherence and maintenance
  • Ability to work occasional weekends as needed to support ASCO meetings and symposia

Preferred Education and Experience

  • Scholarly publishing (journals) and news content experience
  • Proficient in AMA and Chicago style manuals
  • Proficient in content management and tracking systems including Editorial Manager, Airtable, and Smartsheet
  • Experience managing budgets in a professional environment

  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to establish and maintain professional relationships with external experts, editors, and all professional levels
  • Ability to perform needs assessments, document business needs, and facilitate technical RFP processes to include analysis of vendors competencies and costs
  • Exceptional collaborative skills across ASCO departments
  • Ability to document procedures, and train and monitor new staff and vendors to meet the work goals
  • Ability to determine goals and priorities and to assess the actions, time and resources needed to achieve those goals

ADA/Physical Requirements

Office environment with extended periods seated or standing at a desk.

High use of computer and other office technology equipment.

Travel

2-5 days a year
