What Your Job Will Be Like:

The Multiscale Fabrication Science & Technology Department, 5229, is seeking a student intern to assist the department's electrochemical engineering lab, http://www.sandia.gov/mstc/Metal-Micromachining/. The individual will work with a group of staff, technologists, and students. The student is expected to work with various chemistries that are acidic, alkaline, or solvent based solutions to develop procedures and materials based on electrochemical principles. The group is tasked to deliver components and technology for both internal and external programs. In this challenging environment, the individual must have excellent teaming and communication skills and able to tackle and solve complex electrochemical obstacles.

The primary responsibility is to provide direct laboratory support for electrochemical engineering and research programs. Specific responsibilities include:

• Support during the development of electroanalytical protocols

• C haracterizing electrochemical ionic behaviors

• Maintaining a clean and safe laboratory environment.

• Tasks may also include nano-electropolishing, thin film characterization, as well as a spectrum of technologies supporting electrochemical deposition of metals, alloys, metal oxides, polymers, and nano-porous membranes.

Our pay structure is based on earned credit hours, classification, and degree level. Your pay rate will be determined during the hire process and included in your offer package. Qualifications We Require:

You bring the confidence and skills to be eligible for the job by meeting these minimum requirements:

• Earned bachelor's degree

• Currently attending and enrolled full time in an accredited science, engineering, or math graduate program

• Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0/4.0

• Ability to work up to 30 hours per week during the academic year, and up to 40 hours per week during the summer

• U.S. citizenship

Qualifications We Desire:

• The candidate should be a graduate student in chemical engineering or related discipline.

  Must have experimental laboratory experience with:

• Bench top chemistry

• Electroplating

• Microfabrication and process development

The Multiscale Fabrication Science & Technology Development Department leverages a diverse capability set to provide science and technology products to enhance Sandia's national security missions. The department includes a broad set of expertise including atomic physics, quantum information S&T, micro-optics, and electrochemistry. We provide solutions including atomic physics based sensors; microfabrication at the atomic scale, atomic level experimental setups, atom and ion trapping microelectronic devices, and electrochemical materials expertise. Security Clearance:
