Position Description: We’re seeking an EMT and Paramedic to perform medical history and physical assessments. This position is contingent upon Notice to Proceed. This is a temporary contract.

    Responsibilities:

  • Performs medical history and physical assessment.

  • Determines chief complaint.

  • Performs vital signs electronically and manually, as indicated.

  • Obtains medical histories and completes necessary paperwork on detainees entering the facilities including vital signs (Blood Pressure, Temperature, Pulse, Respirations, Pulse Oximetry), performing manually and electronic as applicable. Any medical concerns, abnormal findings or complaints are referred to a Physician or an Advanced PracticeProvider (APP).

  • Knowledge or and ability to apply professional principles, procedures, and techniques for patient care.

  • Maintains compliance with standard operating procedures and protocols.

  • Maintains patient confidentiality and privacy of medical records.

  • Performs record keeping functions in accordance with program policies and the system of records management.

  • Maintains non-involvement in the security aspect of patient care and custody.

  • Attends general staff meetings and participates with medical quality management. initiatives and reviews as applicable.

  • Assures a safe and clean working environment and assists in the disposal of biologically hazardous waste on a regular basis.

  • Completes all annual training as directed.

  • May be required to travel with short notice.

  • May be required to serve at various medical units within the sector/region.

  • Flexible scheduling and overtime are optional, as available.

  • Duties will be performed on-site at medical units, which may rotate within a specific region or sector.

  • Assists with medical appointments, medical/mental health emergencies, documenting all care provided, orders received, and/or any referral made.

  • All documentation completed will be signed and dated, and spell checked for accuracy.

  • Ensures any medical orders received or standing orders are implemented.

  • Coordinates healthcare needs of the patient with other staff members or custody as needed, to include referrals to offsite care.

  • Performs record keeping functions in accordance with records management policy, basic records management training, and program policies.

  • Maintains privacy and confidentiality of all patient care.

  • Performs head to toe assessment, documenting findings, and completing any needed treatments within the scope of practice. Refers any urgent needs to a higher level of careif needed.

  • Restocks supplies as needed, assists with maintaining inventory, maintains equipment in proper working order, to include any manufacturer recommended preventativemaintenance.

  • Participates with general staff meetings during normal duty hours.

  • Coordinates referrals to offsite facilities, performs emergency care if needed.

  • Communicates an end of shift report to the oncoming shift.

  • Participates in Medical Quality Management/Quality Assurance/Risk Management activities or initiatives as needed.

  • Provides emergency care to help stabilize employees or visitors for life, death, loss of sight/limb situations until Emergency Medical Services arrive.

  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

  • Able to walk, stand, bend, sit for extended periods, and be able to perform BLS/CPR if needed or ALS (if applicable)

  • Able to reach to retrieve documents or supplies.

  • Able to carry materials and/or file boxes up to 50 pounds on an infrequent basis or assist patients into/out of a wheelchair.

  • Must be capable of standing on hard surfaces (cement floors) for long periods of time

  • Must perform the duties in a stressful and often austere environment without physical

    limitation.

    Required skills and qualifications:

  • Candidates must be currently licensed to practice as Nationally Registered (NR) EMT or NR Paramedic in the United States or the District of Columbia. Licensure must be maintained current, and any required education or trainings to maintain licensure must be

    completed within the required timeline of the licensing authority. A temporary licensewill not be accepted.

  • Candidate must not have had any professional licensure/certification withheld, suspended, revoked, or denied, and the candidate must not have surrendered or allowed a licensure/certification to have expired or lapsed because of an investigation ordisciplinary action.

  • Candidate must not have been convicted of, pled guilty to, pled nolo contendere to, or received probation before judgment for any crime other than a minor traffic violation, the record of which has not been expunged.

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification must be from one of the following approved organizations:

    • American Heart Association (AHA) BLS for healthcare providers
  • American Heart Association Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), if

  • applicable

  • American Red Cross CPR/BLS for the professional rescuer

  • American Safety and Health Institute (ASHI) CPR and AED for healthcare

  • providers and professional responders

  • Course components must include Adult, Pediatric, and Infant CPR,

  • Foreign Body Airway Obstruction, and Automatic Defibrillator (AED) proficiency

  • Applicant/ Employee must be certified upon hire and may also be a certified instructor

  • BLS must be renewed prior to expiration date, and always kept in an active status

    Experience:

  • Must have a minimum of one year of experience in direct patient care as a licensed/certified NREMT or NR Paramedic in the United States.

  • Experience in detention/correctional or pediatric settings is encouraged, but not required.

  • Application of medical principles, clinical procedures, and techniques.

  • Alertness and skill in providing care and reacting to emergency situations.

  • Interpersonal skills to develop a rapport with patients and co-workers during which instructional and educational information is presented or shared.

  • Basic safety, infection control, quality assurance, records management, statistical information gathering, etc.

  • Skill in collecting a variety of laboratory samples.

  • Supply requisition procedure and ability to complete requests for equipment repair, maintenance, or replacement if indicated.

  • Bilingual - English and Spanish are encouraged, but not required.
