Sandia National Laboratories Electromechanical Technologist (Experienced) in Albuquerque, New Mexico

We are seeking a versatile, self-motivated, team-oriented R&D, Electro-mechanical technologist. This role will engage the successful candidate in assembly and fabrication of synthetic aperture radars (SAR) of varying size and complexity, creation and/or modification of procedures for these assemblies, tracking of the hardware as it progresses through the build process up to and including shipment to customers. In some cases, the successful candidate may have to support the installation of the delivered hardware in remote location and/or at the airport. The role will also include assembly, coordination and documentation associated with several Nuclear Deterrent (ND) programs and some Missile Defense (MD) programs.
On any given day, you may be called on to:
Perform electro-mechanical component assembly of multi-axis gimbals and electronic enclosures in an ESD safe environment
Develop, build, modify, repair, and maintain a wide variety of electronic, electromechanical, and mechanical instruments, systems, or processes
Assemble and inspect electronic or electromechanical hardware, in support of various SAR, NW, and MD programs
Develop and modify work instructions for new or modified assemblies
Perform modification, machining, inspections and 3D printing on a variety of assemblies
Identify, procure, inventory and track parts and assemblies in our on-line tracking system
Maintain assembly documentation and recommend improvements to documentation, designs, and processes
Coordinate with shipping and receiving to deliver completed items and to receive procured items
Setup and perform automated tests
High school diploma or equivalent, plus a minimum of 3 years related experience or higher education levels
2 years of experience in electro-mechanical and/or electronic fabrication
Experience reading mechanical drawings, reading electrical schematics, and familiarity with GD&T
Ability to acquire and maintain an initial DOE L level security clearance; with the ability to ultimately acquire and maintain a DOE Q level security clearance
Experience using machining equipment (Lathe, mill, CNC(s))
Experience reading and understanding electronic schematics data sheets
Experience using basic electronic test equipment (Digital multi-meters, power supplies, oscilloscopes, etc.)
Experience performing SMT soldering and electronics assembly processes that met at least one of the following certifications, J-SDT-001, IPC-7711/7721, IPC-620, and IPC-610 (active certification(s) a plus)
Experience with configuration management tools like GitLab, TeamForge, SVN
Experience with Microsoft office suite of products (Outlook, Internet Browser, Excel, and Word at a minimum.)
Demonstrated success in working effectively both independently and in a team environment
Creative problem solver that is pragmatic and comfortable with managing ambiguity with a willingness to learn and continuously improve
Knowledgeable about safe chemical handling in a laboratory environment
Knowledgeable about various electronic components and cable connectors
Active or DOE Q or L clearance
The Structures & Mechanisms Department, 5324, provides mechanical, electromechanical, and electrical expertise to customers across Sandia Laboratories.
