New York State Civil Service Trades Generalist in Albany, New York

Minimum Qualifications (2 months for training on days 7am – 3:30pm, M-F) Four years of full-time experience in a trade under a skilled tradesperson which would provide training equivalent to that given in a training, apprenticeship, or equivalent program; or an equivalent combination of experience and training gained by completion of technical courses in skilled trades at a school, institute, or branch of the Armed Services. This position may be filled from a mandatory reemployment list if one is in effect at the time of appointment. Candidates may be expected to be qualified to use negative pressure respirators. Valid New York State Driver’s license required ## Duties Description Ability to perform journey-level work in one trade and skilled and semiskilled level work in maintenance, repair and installation tasks in a University setting; journey level work as a locksmith, and semi-skilled work in electrical and carpentry; ability to use power tools related to the field of locksmith including key cutting machines and any other related equipment to accomplish tasks of the various trades; demonstrate the ability to re-key and service key cylinders, repair locksets, install and maintain all types of commercial and industrial hardware; strong background in the electrical field and the ability to troubleshoot and repair electric access control systems; working knowledge of the carpentry trade and ability to troubleshoot and make repairs to doors and frames; basic mathematical skills and blue print and schematic literacy required; ability to perform physical tasks including lifting 100 pounds, carrying ladders and materials; ability to work in areas of heat and cold (indoors and outdoors), working from ladders, scaffolds and lifts, work at heights 35’+ and in confined spaces; working knowledge of relevant building and safety codes (OSHA and ADA); understanding of an implementation of the ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) regulations for commercial entrances and door hardware; ability to maintain current University keying and hardware standards; plan and execute assignments with considerable independence, work overtime as required for emergencies and campus events; ability to work with a computerized maintenance management system; ability to wear a negative pressure respirator and pass a fit test; ability to determine repairs and replacement of equipment, plan work, organize apprentices and helpers with materials and equipment for projects and maintain stocked inventory of materials required; Valid New York state Driver's license required. ## Additional Comments Please MAIL your application to University at Albany, Office of Human Resources Management-UAB 300, 1400 Washington Avenue, Albany, NY, 12222 Applications available via the SUNY Classified Employment page, http://hr.albany.edu/content/classvac.asp or via the employment link at the bottom of the SUNY main page http://www.albany.edu/ ## Notes on Applying Please MAIL your application to University at Albany, Office of Human Resources Management-UAB 300, 1400 Washington Avenue, Albany, NY, 12222 Applications available via the SUNY Classified Employment page, http://hr.albany.edu/content/classvac.asp or via the employment link at the bottom of the SUNY main page http://www.albany.edu/ Federal law and regulations require notice to all prospective employees regarding crimes that have occurred on campus in the current three year period.
