Summary of Role:

Executive responsible to ensure the Credit Union and Subsidiaries maintain an efficient and effective Compliance Program, including its CMS that supports the Credit Union’s strategic direction and goals. Accountable for strategy and operations including the integration of concepts into strategic planning, risk identification and mitigation activities. Ensuring the Credit Union is following applicable regulations, analyzing riskrelated issues, and recommending improvements, modifications, and new procedures where controls are needed.

Essential Job Functions/Responsibilities:

  • Ensure that an effective Compliance Management System (CMS) is established that is appropriate for the size and complexity of Broadview’s business practices and objectives.

  • Demonstrating strategic thinking and planning to address compliance issues associated with Broadview’s strategic objectives.

  • Exercising proactive and independent judgment when providing advice to senior management.

  • Supervising a Compliance staff to ensure that the Compliance monitoring and testing program is performed in a consistent and timely manner.

  • Developing and executing an Annual Compliance Plan.

  • Conducting Broadview’s Compliance risk assessment.

  • Establishing and maintaining written policies and procedures designed to achieve adherence with regulations and internal Compliance policies.

  • Responding to compliance related inquiries, questions and requests from business personnel.

  • Assessing, analyzing, and interpreting applicable rules and regulations.

  • Preparing written responses to regulatory inquiries and examinations.

  • Delivering ongoing training and education to business personnel about Compliance matters.

  • Collaborating on inter-departmental projects with business unit partners.

  • Representing Broadview on industry/regulatory committees and managing regulatory investigations.

  • Ensuring there is satisfactory resolution to highly complex regulatory compliance issues, typically with significant business unit implications, such as resolution of deficiencies of gaps that may be identified.

  • Maintain current knowledge regarding regulatory issues, rules proposals, guidance etc.

  • Advise Broadview regarding compliant business practices.

  • Develop and manage professional relationships with regulatory personnel.

  • Provide reporting including metric/status reports and escalate any breaches to internal and/or external parties.

  • Promote early detection of compliance risk issues.

  • Identify significant compliance risks.

  • Encourage the Business Lines to implement, when feasible, strong preventive compliance controls in collaboration with 1st line and 2nd line of risk colleagues.

  • Promote efficient compliance risk mitigation processes.

  • Assess Broadview’s compliance risk exposure and provide ongoing reporting on the level and direction of that risk.

  • Elevate significant compliance issues and trends to the Business Line Senior and Executive Management.

  • Monitor and address issues identified by internal (i.e., Audit, Compliance, ERM) and external regulatory/independent bodies.

  • Modify the CMS as needed to realign compliance risk management strategies with the changing scope and complexity of Broadview’s business model and practices and with relevant emerging issues or trends, regulatory guidance, or new legislation.

  • Administer and maintains the Program, including but not limited to, writing, developing, and implementing appropriate polices, standards, and procedures.

  • Perform other duties as required and assigned.

Minimum Job Qualifications:

  • 5+ years relevant experience either as a VP equivalent (or higher) of Compliance in a $10B+ financial institution or in a relevant government agency

  • 15+ years of hands-on regulatory compliance in a credit union of equivalent or greater size and complexity required to perform duties effectively.

  • Experience with Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) examination process required.  Experience with the current regulatory environment a benefit (NCUA)

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.  Strong working knowledge of federal and state regulations, which require compliance by a financial institution.

  • Communication Abilities – strong in terms of both oral and written communication; must be able to make effective group presentations with a focus on training staff regarding technical areas; must provide clear and concise written communications essential for fraud identification and prevention.

  • Ability to remain calm in tense situations.

  • Analytical skills – collects and researches data, uses intuition and experience to compile and analyze data; designs work flows and procedures as appropriate for department efficiency.

  • Problem solving – identifies and resolves problems in a timely manner; gathers and analyzes information skillfully; develops alternative solutions; works well in group problem solving situations.

  • Interpersonal skills – works well with diverse groups of people; always treats others with respect and dignity; focuses on solving conflict without hostility; works towards achievement of mutual goals.

  • Exhibits strong attention to detail, project planning, and multi-tasking skills.

    Starting Compensation: $200,000-$240,000, plus a competitive benefits package.
