Job Description:

Description of Duties:

The Birth and Beyond (BABY) study is seeking a full-time Postdoctoral Associate to assist with an NICHD-funded prospective longitudinal research study investigating the social and environmental determinants of Black maternal-infant health (R01 HD106913). The BABY study is a research collaboration involving a multidisciplinary team of psychologists, epidemiologists, environmental health scientists, and obstetrician gynecologists at the University at Albany, SUNY (UAlbany), Boston College, and Albany Medical Center (AMC). The postdoctoral associate will work closely with the Principal Investigator, Dr. Betty Lin, and the research team. The associate's primary role will be to assist with and lead data analyses, manuscript writing, and disseminating results to both the scientific and local community, but responsibilities may include additional research tasks as needed to support the project's success. Postdoctoral associates with interest or expertise in any of the following areas are especially encouraged to apply: Black maternal-infant health, prenatal and early life stress exposure, parent-infant interactions in Black/ African American families, cultural factors, psychophysiological stress responsivity (autonomic and adrenocortical), geographic information systems, health disparities and marginalization, intergenerational transmission, developmental psychopathology, community engagement. Postdoctoral associates who are from historically marginalized backgrounds or who are underrepresented in their fields are also encouraged to apply. The appointment will begin Summer 2025 with flexible start date. The initial appointment will be for 1 year, and the position will be renewable for up to 2 years pending good standing. Salary is commensurate with experience.

Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • PhD or equivalent degree in Psychology, Human Development, Public Health, or other related disciplines within the past 3 years from a college or university accredited by the U.S. Department of Education or an internationally recognized accrediting organization. 
  • Strong research experience and training
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills; detail oriented
  • Possess or successfully complete Human Subjects Protection training certification
  • Applicants must demonstrate an ability to develop inclusive and equitable relationships within our diverse campus community.
  • Applicants must demonstrate an ability to support diversity, equity, access, inclusion, and belonging, relative to their role.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience or strong interest in research related to Black maternal-infant health
  • Experience working with infants, children, and families from racial/ethnic minority backgrounds
  • Record of scholarly productivity
  • Strong quantitative skills and proficiency with Mplus or R
  • Experience with psychophysiological data collection and/or MindWare software
  • Experience with behavioral observations

Additional Information:

Salary Range: $55,000 - $65,000
