Function:

We are seeking to hire a Medical Liaison for the Nursing department within our non-profit human services organization. This individual is responsible for transporting residential and foster care children to and from medical appointments while ensuring their safety and well-being during transit. Communication with medical professionals is essential to facilitate the exchange of health information between the provider and St. Catherine’s Center for Children’s medical staff. The Medical Liaison is also responsible for accurately documenting their activities and any pertinent medical information into St. Catherine’s electronic health record, AWARDS. This is a Full-Time position, Monday-Friday, working 8AM to 4PM.

Duties/Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Transporting children to and from medical appointments.

  • When transporting and accompanying children to medical appointments, provide a safe, secure and therapeutic environment.

  • Responsible for entering and updating the child’s pertinent medical information in AWARDS and Connections as a result of facilitating a medical appointment.

  • Coordinating follow up appointments with providers.

  • Facilitate the exchange of information between St. Catherine’s medical staff and the provider. This includes being able to communicate orally with a variety of professionals in the community as well as provide written communication when necessary.

  • Update emergency information for all clients on a regular basis.

  • Assist with filing, documentation and additional office-related tasks as they relate to the clients we serve.

  • Convey a professional demeanor, both in presentation and communication, with staff at St. Catherine’s and professionals in the community.

  • Carry out other directives as directed by supervisor and/or Director of Nursing.

Performance Standards:

  • Performance in this position is considered satisfactory when the individual:

  • Demonstrates sensitivity and compassion toward the children in care.

  • Is able to effectively communicate the medical needs of the child to any healthcare professional.

  • Has a prompt and regular attendance record.

  • Communicates effectively with supervisory staff and other members of the medical treatment team.

  • Has gleaned a working knowledge of agency policies and procedures.

  • Uses Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) skills in accordance with agency policy and procedures.

  • Presents as an appropriate role model for the children we serve (dress, language, etc.).

Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or G.E.D. required.

  • Must have a clean and valid New York State Driver’s License.

  • Be at least 21 years of age.

  • Ability to transport clients to appointments.

  • Experience in the use of Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI), with the ability to respond effectively and therapeutically in crisis situations.

  • Previous experience working in a human services agency is a plus!

  • Excellent organization, planning and time management skills.

  • Strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to build strong working relationships with regulatory bodies.

  • Proficiency in various computer applications such as Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel), Google Office, and the Internet; Experience with AWARDS a plus!

  • Ability to function well in a high-paced and, at times, stressful environment.

  • Ability to handle sensitive, personal health information (PHI) with strict confidentiality.

  • Self-motivated and engaged, with a strong attention to detail; Excellent writing aptitude.

  • Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills; and exhibit empathy for those in need.

  • Demonstrated placidity and patience; flexibility and adaptability.

  • Ability to pass necessary pre-employment background checks.

  • Possess physical and emotional health conducive to working with children in our care.

  • Able to converse fluently in English, as well as understand the written word.

  • The capacity to help and intervene when necessary as well as perform agency approved physical interventions.

  • Possess the ability to interact with a wide range of people, including those who are culturally and socio-economically diverse, as well as people with various developmental and cognitive functioning levels.

  • Ability to understand, communicate, represent and carry out St. Catherine’s Center for Children’s mission, values, philosophy and policies.

  • Ability to conduct oneself in a manner that is becoming of an employee of St. Catherine’s Center for Children.

  • Ability to work effectively in a shared decision-making model as a member of the Nursing Department team.

  • Provide written documentation as required by St. Catherine’s Center for Children’s policies and procedures and as required by regulating agencies.

  • Be organized and effectively manage time while performing the varied tasks of the position.

  • Work collaboratively with other personnel/service providers or professionals.

  • Meet criteria outlined in St. Catherine’s Center for Children’s revised policy for authorized agency vehicles.

  • Safely and effectively operate a motor vehicle.

  • Follow St. Catherine’s Center for Children’s policies and procedures regarding protected health information of clients.

  • Establish respectful relationships and have the ability to set appropriate limits with the children served.
