Description of Duties:

Under the general direction of the Director of Office of Strategic Initiatives, Data, Assessment, and Technology (SDAT), this position will be principally responsible for supporting the business alignment and operational needs for UAlbany's Research Enterprise, with a focus on research administration. In providing this support, the Business Analyst will work closely with both UAlbany and Research Foundation's (RF) applications governance group, campus constituents, and external vendors to improve workflow. Additionally, the position will address issues with existing applications, provide training, complete reports/analysis, and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements. The Business Analyst will oversee the implementation of both UAlbany and RF ITS' enterprise-wide IT solutions for workflows, prioritizing development needs, and upon reaching post-development, conducting quality assurance through testing and approval for implementation. Beyond the operational needs of addressing issues, training, reporting, and regulatory changes, the individual will also assist with application upgrade projects while facilitating timely, informative communication with stakeholders.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Mapping and optimizing functional development needs of the application by working closely with stakeholders including various committees and task forces, Sponsored Program staff, and campus users to proactively understand issues, regulatory changes, and specific processing requirements and determine appropriate solutions.

  • Document functional and technical requirements for applicable solutions and work with the technical team of the contracted vendor to ensure feasibility, and objective alignment, manage timeframes, and implementation of the requests in a timely manner without sacrificing quality.

  • Keep apprised of new and revised business requirements or changes to ensure the system accommodates emerging business needs.

  • Validate the implementations of migrations, upgrades, and patching of the technical team. Once complete, coordinate testing, address any identified gaps and communicate maintenance timeframes with stakeholders.

  • For projects, generate, maintain, and provide ownership of important project-related assets and documents such as to request forms, project charters, requirement matrix, business rules, project plans, timelines, decision-making documents, process flows, etc.

  • From project planning, execution, testing to implementation of reconfiguration and automation, be the key point of contact, supporting the project team through these phases to reach successful implementations.

  • Assist with configurations across the Division, both for initial set-up and in the form of regular maintenance, and training.

  • Facilitate routine operational maintenance of key data elements within the application, such as maintenance of user and organization's records.

  • Assist with coordination, material generation, and presentation of materials for the cross- unit and cross-function workgroups, focus groups, or committees as needed. This includes building and designing reports for stakeholder interpretation and action planning.

  • Perform other project-related duties and carry out additional duties and assignments as required.

    Job Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in business administration, information systems, business analysis and design, or related field, from a college or university accredited by the U.S. Department of Education or an internationally recognized accrediting organization.

  • One year of experience in technical or administrative experience with software analysis, business analysis, and/or project management.

  • Strong time-management skills in managing multiple projects, priorities, and deadlines.

  • One year of experience in supporting enterprise software applications.

  • Capability to work both independently and as a team member in-person and remotely, ability to multi-task and respond professionally in challenging situations is essential.

  • Capability to thrive in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment as well as work collaboratively and adapt to changing processes and procedures.

  • Analytical skills with a strong customer service orientation to understand and assist a wide range of internal faculty.

  • Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint

  • Strong oral and written communication skills

  • Ability to support diversity, equity, access, inclusion, and belonging relative to this position.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in business analysis or related field, from a college or university accredited by the U.S. Department of Education or an internationally recognized accrediting organization.

  • Experience in higher education administration, research administration or related organizations.

  • Three years of experience in working with an enterprise-class business system.

  • Technical or functional certifications in an applicable field of knowledge, e.g., Project Management Professional (PMP).

  • Direct experience with Microsoft PowerAutomate, or other workflow management/automation software.

    Additional Information:

Salary Range: $75,000 - $85,000

Subject to change, this position may be eligible for an alternative workplace arrangement.
