CITY OF ALAMOSA Water/Wastewater Technician II in ALAMOSA, Colorado

POSITION: Water/Wastewater Technician II

DUTIES: 1. Excavates, inspects, flushes, cleans and repairs water/sanitary sewer mains, lines and laterals; cut and remove roots from sanitary sewer mains 2. Repairs and inspects and/or replaces fire hydrants, meter vaults, water pumps, water distribution lines and water valves; valve exercising program; painting of fire hydrants. 3. Installation of new water and sewer mains; installs new utility services by making taps for new water/sewer utility services. 4. Locates mains and installations for crews and contractors; prepare sketches of utility locations; perform a variety of maintenance and repair duties. 5. Installs, repairs and replaces curb stops, manholes, fire hydrants, valves, meters and meter vaults and boxes; exercises, opens and closes valves according to prescribed schedules. 6. Cleans and maintains well houses and lift station equipment and grounds; checks and replaces pump lubrication and packing while performing preventative maintenance on motors and submersible pumps. 7. Troubleshoots lift station and motors when needed. 8. Operates construction equipment such as dump trucks, backhoes, front loaders, trenchers, and other tools such as pipe locators, meter test units, rodding equipment, compressors, jack hammers and concrete saws. 9. Maintains adequate preventative maintenance 10. Installs street barricades and cones prior to the performance of construction and repair activities; directs and controls traffic around worksites ensuring proper safety measures are followed on worksite. 11. Reads water meters on assigned routes recording readings; making necessary calculations. 12. Ensures that meters are registering properly and reports to supervisors on meter conditions, defects or suspicious conditions. 13. Installs meter wire on newly constructed houses and completes meter paperwork necessary for billing purposes. 14. Responds to requests and inquiries from customers concerning water and sewer utilities and from the public. 15. Identifies equipment needs for each assigned project. 16. Inspects and maintains equipment. 17. Collects water samples for laboratory testing. 18. Collects and analyzes chlorine within the distribution system and may perform routine tests as required. 19. Maintains daily work logs and utilizes proper safety precautions for all work performed. 20. Assists other departments with snow removal or with major projects as necessary. 21. Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with other employees, supervisor(s) and the public. 22. Sets-up and breaks-down laser level equipment on sewer line installs. 23. Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS: 1. Water distribution system and wastewater collections systems. 2. General electrical components and electrical troubleshooting methods. 3. Methods, techniques and tools and the operational characteristics of mechanical and electrical equipment used in construction repair and maintenance 4. Of safety practices and purposes of general hand tools, light equipment and heavy machinery. 5. Of two-way radio system operation. 6. Safe work practices. 7. Completion of the twelfth grade or equivalent and two (2) year experience of work related experience.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS: 1. Possession of a Colorado Class 1 Wastewater Collections and Colorado Class 1 Water Distribution certificate or ability to obtain within twelve (12) months from date of hire. 2. Possession of a valid Colorado Driver's License with a good driving record. 3. Possession of a State of Colorado Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with air breaks endorsement within Six (6) months from date of hire. 4. Must successfully complete continuing education courses to maintain licenses.

WAGE: $24.75 - $26.00/hr
