CITY OF ALAMOSA Streets Equipment Operator in ALAMOSA, Colorado

JOB TITLE: Streets Equipment Operator

MUSTS: High school graduation or the equivalent. One year of working experience in equipment operation. May require the operation of motor-driven vehicles/equipment to off-site locations for work or training. Class B CDL license with airbrake endorsement is required.

SKILLS: Thorough knowledge of light and medium equipment operating practices and procedures. Demonstrated ability to safely operate a variety of equipment and the ability to convey this ability to others. Working knowledge of normal street and utility construction practices to include the ability to read grade stakes and construction documents if assigned to the street or sewer and water divisions. City geography. Operating principles of light and medium equipment including but not restricted to backhoes, loaders, graders, trash trucks, and street sweepers. Understand and follow oral and written instructions in the English language. Work cooperatively with other City employees and the public. Ability to safely use and understand both power and manually-operated hand tools, medium and heavy equipment. Communicate clearly verbally and in writing, with tact and courtesy, in order to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, assigned personnel, other employees, and the general public. Work safely without presenting a direct threat to self or others.

DUTIES: Performs maintenance and repair work within the assigned division. Operates a wide variety of light and medium equipment. Performs maintenance work necessary to preserve the infrastructure of his or her particular division through the use of hand-held power and manually-operated tools, manual labor, and light, and medium equipment. Operates or assists in the operation of equipment required to perform specialized maintenance work of his or her particular division such as crack sealers, rodding machines, air compressors, automated pothole patchers, vac trucks, or trailers pumps, mowers, trimming equipment, etc. Performs corrective and preventive maintenance on all divisional equipment, such as greasing and washing. Inspects visible working parts to observe wear and repairs or reports any faulty or worn parts to prevent breakdowns May operate heavier Equipment on a temporary or training basis Performs winter maintenance such as snow plowing and sanding. Performs all duties in conformance with safety and security standards. Serve as on-call personnel in a rotation with other crew members May exercise limited technical supervision over lower level or part-time employees. Maintain a current flaggers certification Conduct Traffic control when working in high traffic areas, Including set up and removal of traffic control devices. May serve as a driver for a sanitation crew, frequently dismounting the vehicle to empty containers as needed.

WAGES: $25.41 -$26.68 per hour
