This position is located in Alamance County and will serve as the Senior Assistant District Engineer for Alamance and Orange Counties. This is an Engineer II position that will perform engineering and administrative functions to assist the District Engineer in the oversight and execution of District programs including review of complex plan and traffic study submittals for right of way encroachments, commercial driveways, and subdivision road construction and preparation of associated permit documents as well as development of small highway construction projects. The position serves as the lead for the Department and is the primary point of contact for developers, engineers and government entities related to the assigned responsibilities. Will represent the Department on technical issues and advise the parties involved on the policies and specifications. Will consult and coordinate with other Department units in administrative matters. The position will assist the District Engineer in administering other programs such as: Secondary Construction, Outdoor Advertising, and Over-Dimension Permits. Will provide training, direction, and coordination of work of engineering technicians and lower level engineers. Will attend and participate in all municipal development review meetings and attend numerous meetings with developers, engineers, and government agencies on high profile developments within the assigned counties.

Experience reviewing project plans and specifications for compliance with established practices and principles of Engineering (i.e. - Spot Safety, locally-managed projects, subdivisions, right of way encroachments and driveway permit applications) Experience in the supervision, direction, management and training of lower level employees and/or contract engineering personnel to achieve established project delivery metrics
Demonstrated ability in planning, developing, scheduling, tracking, and completing projects independently or with limited supervision.
Demonstrated ability maintaining positive working relationships
Customer Service experience related to resolving problems.
Experience in Microsoft office, Outlook, and use of GIS software
Additional Expectations:
Ability to work safely in both office and outside environments with exposure to hazards on construction sites including heights, highway traffic, and traversing rough terrain in evaluating highway construction. Must be able to perform moderate physical activity including but not limited to walking, climbing, balancing, kneeling, and standing. Must apply safety philosophy and program to all operations. Safety toe footwear is needed for this position. The selected applicant will be expected to legally operate a motor vehicle.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in an applicable field of engineering from an appropriately accredited institution and three (3) years of progressively responsible experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Necessary Special Qualification: May require registration as a professional engineer by the North Carolina Board of Examiners for Engineers and Surveyors.
