The Opportunity

This position works out of our Alajuela, Coyol location in the Vascular division that provides innovative, minimally invasive, and cost-effective products for the treatment of vascular disease.

What You’ll Do

  • Lead, coach, mentor less experienced engineers to follow structured problem solving methodologies and implement robust problem solving analysis, scientific and critical thinking.

  • With minimal supervision, support the Abbott Vascular Quality System (AVQS) serving as recognized SME to solve high complexity manufacturing and quality issues (CAPAs) with site level impact. Function as SME for internal and External audits related to manufacturing and product technology

  • Promote, lead and Support cost improvement projects, manufacturing productivity improvement projects or process improvement projects using holistic engineering solutions without compromising product or process quality

  • May supervise and provide technical assistance to personnel, being accountable for their correct training, development and performance management

  • May perform installation/validation activities for new or existing production processes/lines, meeting regulatory and AVQS requirements, including but not limited to equipment, process, product and test method validations.

  • Understand and develop technical process knowledge and correlate critical to quality attributes in engineering documentation (FMEAs, inspection plan, process monitoring) to drive variability reduction and optional product performance, such as zero-defect initiatives.

  • Fosters relationships or builds network outside of the plant and or division (Division, Corporate, external suppliers /vendors) to leverage knowledge and best practices for the manufacturing process and business in general.

Shift: Admin (Monday – Friday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm)

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related STEM field

  • 7 years of related experience

  • Fully Bilingual (English and Spanish)

  • Experience leading a cross functional team towards solving complex technical issues impacting the business

  • Demonstrated proficiency on problem solving tools and methodologies, innovation, resourcefulness, and scientific analysis for the resolution of complex issues

  • Knowledge of statistical techniques and tools (DOE, SPC)

  • Experience in deploying risk reduction strategies to improve product quality

  • Lean Six Sigma Green Belt Certification required

Preferred Qualifications

  • Lean Six Sigma Black Belt Certification preferred, not required.

  • Graduate (master or above) field of study preferred, not required

  • Knowledge of FDA, GMP and ISO guidelines for medical regulated industry
