CHILDRENS HOSPITAL MEDICAL CENTER OF AKRON Data Scientist in Akron, Ohio

Full Time 40 Hours/Week Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 4:30pm Remote, Onsite 1 day/month Summary: The Data Scientist at Akron Children's Hospital plays a pivotal role in advancing the organization's analytics capabilities. Reporting to the Director of Analytics, the position is integral to the newly formed Advanced Analytics. Responsibilities: Strategy and Relationship: Program Design: Designs the inaugural program on Advanced Analytics / Data Science, gathering feedback and guidance from leaders, stakeholders, and peers. Obtains support and approval, implementing the program with a clear roadmap for the next 1-3 years. Stakeholder Engagement: Develops relationships with stakeholders and partners, understanding the business context (operational, clinical, financial) and strategic goals. External Partnerships: Nurtures external partnerships with professional associations, communities, universities, research institutes, government agencies, and solution providers/vendors. Execution and Delivery: Data Exploration and Preprocessing: Collects and explores raw data from various sources to identify patterns, trends, and potential insights. Preprocesses data by cleaning, transforming, and validating to ensure its quality and suitability for analysis. Model Development: Designs, develops, and implements predictive and prescriptive models using statistical techniques and machine learning algorithms. Continuously refines and optimizes models for improved accuracy and performance. Feature Engineering: Identifies and engineers relevant features from datasets to enhance the predictive power of models. Collaborates with domain experts to extract meaningful features that contribute to model effectiveness. Healthcare Model Tuning: Uses and tunes healthcare models to ensure their accuracy, relevance, and effectiveness in clinical settings. Applies advanced statistical techniques to optimize models for improved patient outcomes and operational efficiency. Data Visualization: Creates compelling data visualizations and dashboards to effectively communicate insights and findings to both technical and non-technical stakeholders. Utilizes visualization tools such as Tableau, Power BI, or custom code for effective presentation of results. Use Case Focus: Focuses on a limited number (e.g., 2-5) of use cases quarterly, collaborating with key partners to obtain feedback and support for regular adjustments. Thought Leadership: LEAN and OpEx Expertise: Utilizes LEAN or Operational Excellence (OpEx) expertise, sharing success stories or lessons learned with the EDA team and the analytics professional community. Teaches or coaches other professionals on advanced analytics, problem-solving methodologies, techniques, etc., for professional development. Industry Research: Research industry and sector trends and best practices. Other information: Technical Expertise: Strong organizational and problem-solving skills required, with an emphasis on attention to detail. Excellent written and oral communication skills, along with good interpersonal skills. Professional interaction with a diverse group of staff and users. Experience working with all levels within an organization. Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite tools [Outlook, Excel, Word] or similar software. Expert level skills in research, data science, clinical and/or operational decision-making processes, techniques, and tools (e.g., SAS, R, Python, Alteryx, etc.). Education and Experience: Education: Bachelor's degree in clinical research, statistics, economics, industrial engineering, or related fields (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics domains) required.
