Job Purpose:

Design Electrical and Electronics Systems for Caterpillar Excavators. Coordinate a broad international group of teams within Caterpillar and External Suppliers to deliver world class Electrical and Electronic Systems deeply integrated on Caterpillar Excavators.

The position will require understanding of both specialized electronic systems and sensors relating to detection systems. These skills may include cameras, ultrasonic sensors, radar, and other types of sensing technologies which will be processed and used to provide useful information and machine reactions to the operator with the primary intent of eliminating safety related incidents. Selecting appropriate components, working with harness and vehicle design teams to connect and layout the system (pinout and schematic development), and writing requirements for software development, especially focused on neural networks/deep learning, and developing verification and validation strategies will be key activities for the candidate. Keeping up to date on the latest technologies in the field will be critical for setting both near term strategy and longer term multi-generational product strategies.

The candidate must also be able to work with internal compliance teams and work individually to study and understand relevant worldwide regulations and standards. This will include both active and new regulations and standards in development phases, in a way that will be enable Caterpillar to continue to develop world class customer solutions that are compliant in every region that Caterpillar offers products.

Background/Experience:

Candidate must have a BS or MS in Electrical, Mechanical, Agricultural, or Computer Engineering, or equivalent experience. Must have product development experience, including electronics systems/component/controls development.

Other skills include demonstrated leadership, planning and communication skills in English. Demonstrated customer focus, analysis, and troubleshooting skills. Demonstrated ability to identify needed actions across organizational boundaries and act to resolve issues with minimal oversight. Ability to communicate technical information effectively with a diverse group. Demonstrated project planning, oversight and status tracking and reporting skills.

Desired Qualifications:

Strong background in application of embedded controllers on Caterpillar machines or similar machine/vehicle systems. Understanding of electro/hydraulic systems and other major machine subsystems. Good mechanical aptitude as demonstrated with previous mechanical systems experience. Detailed knowledge of electrical/electronic systems on Caterpillar machines or similar machine/vehicle systems. Electrical components, systems, subsystem or engine systems experience. Ability to read and utilize a schematic to troubleshoot basic machine wiring issues. Experience with FMEA processes and a basic knowledge of electronic system failure modes. Experience with a global product development teams for construction machines or similar machine/vehicle systems.
